LONDON POLICE SERVICE
Position:                               Communications Operator
Status:                                   Temporary, Full-Time
Starting Salary:                   $81,407

Working within the London Police Service’s Support Services Division, Communications Section members work 24/7 answering calls for service from the London community.
 
Duties and Responsibilities
 
  • Efficiently and calmly receive 911 sessions for emergency service, transferring to the appropriate emergency service;
  • Enter calls for service in CAD in relation to 911 sessions and non-emergent calls that are transferred in from other areas;
  • Maintain communications via voice and/or data with patrolling police units, assisting and recording information, and notifying support agencies as required;
  • Immediately notify a supervisor of all major calls for service, calls requiring media notification, personnel change notifications, equipment malfunctions, and any other situation requiring a supervisor’s attention;
  • Notify all appropriate emergency and support agencies of pertinent information with respect to street closures, blocked railway crossings, severe storm warnings, and other situations as required;
  • Be proficient in the use of CAD, Versaterm, Radio, Meridian/Nortel/Avaya phones, TTY, Spilsbury, Media Works, Text to 911, Kloud, SIT, Star Chase, downtown cameras, and the weekly CAD/computer reboot;
  • Answer all external and internal lines, including the supervisor’s line when required;
  • Adhere to all LPS Procedures, Orders and Directives; and
  • All duties as assigned within the core competencies.

Requirements
 
  • Secondary school diploma;
  • Ability to deal effectively with persons in crisis and work in a stressful environment that requires problem solving, judgment, conflict resolution, communication, teamwork and co-operation;
  • Excellent multitasking skills with the ability to prioritize tasks; and
  • Ability to work rotating shifts including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
