Salary Grade: L ($22.26 per hour, including benefits)

Please note, that these roles are sessional positions working from September to April each year and include benefits. As part of our 24/7 residence model, these positions will work night shifts, 10 pm to 6 am, (including weekends) on a rotational basis.

About the Role

The Residence Safety Assistant will contribute to the promotion and creation of a safe living and recreational space and will assist with mitigating risks to students and others through positive open and engaging relationships with residents, sharing supportive and educational conversations, and ensuring room capacity limits and other health standards are adhered to and participating effectively in emergency/crisis response protocols. The Assistant will engage with students who fail to comply with policies and safe living practices and document concerns referring to other resources as required. All work shifts will be in the evening and on weekends.

About the Candidate

Successful candidates will ideally have:
•    Completed a college or university (post secondary) degree or diploma program.
•    Experience working in customer service, hospitality or working with students. 
•    Willingness to work evening and overnight shifts, including weekends .
•    Approachable and understanding demeanour, with an ability to respond professionally to inquiries, complaints and requests for services in a fair, tactful and firm manner. 
•    Capacity to establish rapport, support and demonstrate openness to persons of diverse backgrounds and beliefs, with a sense of diplomacy and conflict resolution skills. 
•    Excellent communication skills (including ability to understand and document in English) and the ability to work independently to address community needs.
•    Ability to influence and obtain cooperation with policies and regulations. 
•    Beginner level of knowledge using tablets and Microsoft Office Word and Excel is preferred
•    Must be compliant with Western’s COVID-19 Vaccination Policy and be able to produce a current Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) from a police service prior to commencing employment.
