Job Description
We are seeking motivated Machine Operators to join our production team in Fergus. Machine Operators play a key role in the manufacturing of electrical cables by safely running and maintaining production equipment, performing quality checks, and ensuring smooth workflow throughout the process.

Pay Rate: $31.21/hour (with scheduled increases after probation and training milestones)
Key Responsibilities
- Set up machines with the correct tools, raw materials, and specifications for each production run
- Read and interpret design recipes and cable drawings
- Perform quality checks on in-process and finished goods, including visual inspections and precise measurements using tools such as calipers, micrometers, pin gauges, diameter tapes, and tensile testing equipment
- Monitor and adjust equipment to ensure products meet quality standards
- Handle materials throughout production (feeding machines, removing finished goods, labeling, packaging)
- Safely operate walk-behind pallet jacks, stand-up reach trucks, forklifts, and overhead cranes
- Complete basic maintenance tasks, such as oil and filter changes, greasing, and checking bearings/rollers
- Identify and flag any non-conforming product when necessary
Qualifications
- Previous experience in a manufacturing or machine operation environment is an asset
- Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail
- Comfortable working with measuring tools and equipment
- Ability to follow directions, read technical drawings, and maintain quality standards
- Willingness to work in a unionized setting and participate in training as required
- Physically capable of working in a fast-paced production environment
Work Schedule
We operate on two shift systems:
- 8-hour rotating shifts (Mon–Fri): Days, afternoons, and nights (rotation may be adjusted based on business needs).
- 12-hour continental shifts: Rotating days and nights, including weekends. Premium pay applies for weekend shifts.
Flexibility is required, as employees may be reassigned between schedules to meet operational needs.
Compensation & Benefits
- Starting rate: $31.21/hour with wage progression after probation and training milestones
- Boot and safety glasses allowance after probation ($265 for boots, $210 for prescription safety glasses)
- Benefits package:
- Prescription and vision coverage after 30 days (company paid)
- Dental, life insurance ($65,000 flat), and AD&D after 90 days (minimal employee contribution)
- Short-term disability coverage (up to 52 weeks) after 90 days
- Vacation: Accrued annually (July–June) with scheduled plant shutdowns in May and August
- Additional paid floater days during the year-end holiday shutdown
