Reporting to the Manager of Intercollegiate Programs, the Temporary Head Coach of the Gryphon’s Women’s Hockey Program is responsible for one of the Department of Athletics’ most visible OUA and CIS varsity sports. For the period September 1 to October 31, the incumbent will be working with the current Head Coach and roles and responsibilities will vary. For the period November 1 to April 15, the incumbent will assume full responsibility for the position.  Specifically, the incumbent will coordinate and supervise all aspects of the women’s hockey program including:  the implementation of an elite hockey environment for student-athletes to ensure the development of skills on and off the playing surface; monitoring the academic progress of the student-athletes and providing appropriate academic counseling; managing the team’s yearly budget; recruiting student-athletes that will enhance the hockey program; and developing an extensive network of Gryphon Hockey Alumni.  In addition, the incumbent will be responsible for planning a summer hockey school, including staff recruitment, training, and curriculum planning.

Requirements of the position include:  Undergraduate degree, preferably in teaching or coaching and a minimum of three years’ related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.  Additional requirements include: excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills; evidence of successful coaching and leadership experience; budgeting experience; demonstrated ability to work independently and have an understanding and appreciation of the University’s unique environment and expectations in regard to the education of the whole student-athlete. National Coaching Certification preferred.
