BOARD DIRECTOR – SMALL BUSINESS CENTRE

The Organization
The London Community Small Business Centre (SBC) is an integral, local not-for-profit organization that has served Londoners for more than three decades. The Centre’s mission includes providing a full range of support and services necessary to start and build a small business. Thousands of entrepreneurs have benefited from our advisory services, information resources, seminars, mentorship, and entrepreneurship programs.
Mission
Provide guidance and support to entrepreneurs through the start-up and growth stages of small business to actively contribute to the economic, social, and cultural well-being of our community.
Role of the Board
The SBC Board of Directors plays an essential role in the governance of the organization. Responsibilities include strategic planning, oversight of the Executive Director, fiduciary responsibilities and more. It is made up of a diverse group of dedicated volunteers that help ensure that the SBC is focused on its critical mission within the community.

Our Needs
The Board is seeking new Directors who demonstrate the following:
Board meetings are held during the day, approximately ten times per year. Pre-reading of some reports and documents is required prior to meetings. Participation in committees of the Board is optional, with committee meetings being held approximately once per quarter. The SBC Board has committees focused on Finance, Governance, and Human Resources. Each Director will hold office for a three-year term.

Our Needs

- Enthusiastic and committed individuals with demonstrated leadership expertise. It would be beneficial to have expertise in one or more of the following: Corporate Law, Not-For-Profit Management and/ or Governance, General Business Management.
- Engaged professionals from the community who are interested in contributing their skills, attributes and area(s) of expertise to govern the Small Business Centre so that it continues to efficiently carry out its mission in support of entrepreneurs and the London economy.
- The ability to logically assess, ask good catalytic questions and offer insight or advice from a governance perspective.
- A proven aptitude to gain an understanding, empathize, respectfully challenge, and encourage, to help the organization maximize its capability.
- Previous Board experience is an asset, but it is not required.
- The ability to contribute to a strong Board team and engage the collective mind through varying opinions.
