Job Description
Grain Inspector
Agricorp is looking for two Grain Inspectors for the central/eastern regions of Ontario to enhance its grain inspection function of the Grain Financial Protection Program (GFPP) in Regional Services within the Program Delivery division. These opportunities will appeal to candidates who are able to travel within Ontario to provide on-site inspections of licensed grain dealers and elevator operators. Grain inspection work will be assigned as required.
The Role
As a part of our Regional Services team, you will use your specialized knowledge of the Grains Act and the production, storage and marketing of grain crops in Ontario. In this role you will:
- Conduct complex inspections of storage facilities to determine and ensure compliance under the Grains Act
- Issue directives on non-compliance situations and follow up to ensure timely and appropriate compliance
- Conduct complex analysis of basis and price later contracts to determine the degree of hedging and open positions of the grain dealer or elevator operator
- Determine and ensure that grain elevators comply with health and safety requirements for the safe climbing of elevators
- Develop inspection reports, work plans and activity reports on grain inspections
- Maintain strong working relationships with peers and managers in Regional Services and across divisions, and collaborate to resolve issues, discuss complex directives and coordinate grain inspections
- Liaise with Ministry of Natural Resources on investigating compliance issues
- Maintain working relationships with the Grain Farmers of Ontario and related commodity groups to promote knowledge of products and programs, educating customers and representing Agricorp

Qualifications
- Experience in the production, handling, marketing, grading and inspection of grain
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in a field demonstrating analytical processing, thinking and planning abilities or equivalent experience
- Specialized knowledge of the Grains Act and the production, storage and marketing of grain crops in Ontario
- Ability to climb grain elevators (certification under Health and Safety Act to climb elevators an asset). Training is provided.
- Ability to operate a licensed motor vehicle to travel in Ontario
- Proficient in Microsoft Office 2010
- Understanding of financial records an asset
