WORK DESCRIPTION
 
The Store Manager is responsible for assisting the day-to-day operation and management of the assigned store including the implementation and adherence to Farm Boy programs, policies and procedures. The performance of the duties must ensure a quality service approach to all employees, customers and suppliers. All responsibilities must be performed in a manner consistent with the Farm Boy vision, mission, and the Farm Boy Way.
 
Major Responsibilities:

1.    Oversee all departmental activities ensuring that goals are properly communicated and attained
2.    Promote company policy (as communicated in management meetings, policy and procedure manuals, employee handbooks, written directives, etc.) and ensure compliance
3.    Participate in community events and ensure Farm Boy’s continued community presence
4.    Assist in implementing and verifying  internal controls, rapidly correcting any problems and informing company management of all problems beyond control
5.    Oversee the quality of product for sale and the cleanliness of the store at all times 
6.    Work with systems, in conjunction with the responsible managers, for the adequate supply and turnover of product and packaging supplies
7.    Coordinate through Home Office:

a)    purchasing of packaging supplies
b)    maintenance of systems, equipment, and location
c)    purchase of equipment and services
d)    advertising and promotion needs of the location

8.    Oversee the efficiency of scale and point-of-sale equipment and study the reports generated by these systems in order to track products and make sound product decisions
9.    Implement the health and safety program and act on recommendations made by the Joint Health and Safety Committee
10.    Ensure that the store is properly protected, including ensuring that opening and closing procedures are conducted and responding to calls in the case of an after-hours alarm 
11.    Oversee and enrich customer service, personally handling any serious customer complaints or concerns
12.    Participate in the development of goals and preparation of annual, period and weekly budgets
13.    Monitor and achieve budgeted financial results in keeping with Farm Boy standards (i.e. gross margin, labour, packaging, supplies)
14.    Evaluate retail programs, recommending modifications where such are needed to attain the desired returns
15.    Verify invoices received, taking action where required, and forwarding to Home Office for payment
16.    Ensure that cash handling procedures are secure and adequate
17.    Provide leadership and act as coach to all employees within the store, providing an excellent role model at all times
18.    Foster employee development and motivation in a team spirit and through inter-departmental cooperation
19.    Ensure fair and equal treatment of all employees and act as facilitator in all disputes and grievances
20.    Practice all Farm Boy Human Resources policies and procedures as related to the management, supervision, and development of personnel
21.    Encourage and participate in employee recognition events
22.    Coordinate and participate in the recruitment, selection, orientation and training of new employees
23.    Monitor employee turnover, staffing patterns, and employee productivity taking action where necessary
24.    Assist in the scheduling of staff and verify attendance and payroll records prior to sending them to Home Office for processing
25.    Maintain appropriate records, logs and schedules
26.    Work with team of Retail Specialists to reach departmental and store goals
27.    May be requested to undertake other related duties on a periodic basis 
 
STATEMENT OF QUALIFICATIONS
 
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Typically requires completion of a post-secondary program with an emphasis in business, plus 5 to 7 years of progressively responsible managerial experience in retail, preferably in the perishable food industry, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Successful completion of a Farm Boy approved Food Safety Course plus Level A First Aid and Basic CPR certification, or the commitment to complete within 6 months

  • Ability to learn manual and automated systems/tools
  • Good knowledge of retail industry and food products

  • Good judgment and decision-making abilities
  • Experience in working with various computer software programs; e.g., Microsoft Suite
  • Clear and effective communication style, both written and oral
  • Skilled at working in a fast-paced environment while maintaining priorities and a high level of performance
