Job Description

The Fleet & Facilities department is currently seeking someone to fill a General Service position. Reporting to the Manager of Fleet Operations, General Service employees are responsible for completing the following job functions:

Primary duties may include lead hand when assigned, servicing and cleaning of fleet vehicles;
  • Minor repairs to vehicles (examples lights, mirrors, wipers, etc.) and assist skilled trades persons as required;
  • Change engine, transmission, differential and cooling system fluids, as well as replenishes the fluids in the hydraulic system and lubricates fleet vehicles;
  • Removes and replaces tires and rims for fleet vehicles if he/she has received appropriate Director of F&F approved training;
  • Carry out service calls, bus changeoffs, and out of service calls;
  • Washing and cleaning of facility and fleet vehicles;
  • Effectively and efficiently set up the buses in the storage barns for servicing/dispatching in the morning.  Garage dispatch duties which include keeping the office bus board updated and moving buses when required.
  • Grounds maintenance, scrap and garbage removal and maintenance of plant equipment as required
  • Operating (with proper training) fork lift, skid steer, bobcat, sweeper/scrubber.
  • Shoveling snow and salting sidewalks
  • Completes other duties as assigned
Successful candidates must possess the following skills and qualifications:
  • A Valid G license in good standing (must be able to upgrade to a B or C license)
  • Valid Z Air Brake Endorsement
  • Zero demerit points
  • One year handson basic mechanical experience (use of power tools, experience working on vehicles etc)
  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Ability to work afternoons or nights
  • Ability to work within a team environment
  • *Currently seeking to fill vacancies in midnight shifts (11pm to 7am).
