Director, Community Impact

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Director of Community Impact to join our dynamic team. Reporting to the President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), this individual is responsible for overseeing the implementation of United Way’s Community Impact strategy and leading staff and volunteers in accordance with United Way’s mandate and Board policy.

Location:

London office | Travel within Elgin and Middlesex Counties is required

Work Hours:

Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. | 35 hours / week | Position is occasionally required to work a flexible schedule to participate in activities and meetings outside of regular business hours.

Compensation Structure

Based on the salary band for this role, external candidates can expect to be offered a starting salary in the range of $97,925 - $103,475. When determining the wage, we consider the market, candidate experience, as well as internal equity. We also offer…

Primary Responsibilities

Community Investment

• Lead and direct the investment process for funded programs and special investments
• Lead the refinement of the community investment framework to ensure investments remain responsive to emerging needs
• Advise the CEO, Board of Directors, and volunteer committees in the development of policies related to funding streams and priorities

Agency and Partner Relations

• Develop and maintain positive relations with community organizations and funded agencies
• Liaise with community organizations to ensure United Way’s participation in the design, development, and delivery of social services in Elgin and Middlesex counties

Partnerships, programs, and strategic initiatives

• Work with United Way Labour staff to ensure the provision of Labour Community Services in accordance with service objectives agreed upon with local Labour Councils

Stakeholder engagement

• Recruit, train, and engage volunteers for the Agency Partnerships Investment committee to provide insight to community impact work

Advocacy and government relations

• Represent United Way at community councils, tables, and forums, serving as a visible and engaged presence in the community 

Grant Management

• Manage the full grant lifecycle by identifying funding opportunities, submitting applications, maintaining tracking for deadlines and requirements, and ensuring timely reporting and compliance with funder expectations

Community initiatives and project management

• Provide strategic leadership and oversight of initiatives that involve community support, ensuring projects align with United Way’s priorities, community needs, and strategic direction.
• Lead the planning, implementation, and evaluation of major community initiatives, including establishing project objectives, timelines, partnerships, resources, and measurements of success

Organizational management and leadership

• Provide strategic counsel to the Senior Management Team on Community Impact matters
• Work with Senior Management peers to develop and implement United Way’s strategic and operating plans
• Collaboratively lead the implementation of United Way’s Reconciliation and Equity Plan by participating in learning opportunities and applying anti-oppressive and anti-racist learnings into actions
• Perform other duties as needed for the safe and effective operations of the organization

Our Ideal Candidate Will Possess
 

• Post secondary degree in Social Sciences or commensurate education and experience
• Five+ years' experience of relevant community impact work at the senior management level
• Deep knowledge of the community with a focus on poverty reduction and prevention
• Experience working collaboratively with multiple stakeholders to build strong relationships
• Proven ability to lead by setting clear direction and translating strategies into focused and aligned goals, specific accountabilities and action plans that are results oriented
• Experience managing and working with volunteers
• Experience leading and implementing reconciliation and equity plans, and applying anti-oppressive and anti-racist principles in organizational practices, programs and community engagement
• Valid Ontario driver’s license and access to a vehicle with a minimum of $1,000,000 insurance coverage.
• Position requires a Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check (CRJMC)
