The base salary will be $70,560 - $83,000 per annum. Starting salary will be aligned with the successful candidate’s experience, skills, and demonstrated qualifications.

Responsibilities
The Institutional Research Project Manager will provide dedicated oversight and coordination for large-scale, institutionally awarded strategic research projects within Western Research. The role will ensure that complex, multi-partner initiatives are delivered on time, on budget, and in compliance with both institutional and sponsor requirements. Acting on behalf of Western Research, the role provides institution-level direction and oversight for post-award obligations, including required reporting, compliance, and risk mitigation. By working closely with faculty leaders, funding sponsors, and campus partners, the Project Manager will implement best practices in project management, streamline communication and reporting, and intervene where necessary to address project delays, compliance gaps, or institutional risk. The role is central to enabling Western to maximize the impact of major research funding opportunities, particularly for high-value, high-risk, and highly visible initiatives involving complex governance, matching funds, capital or facilities requirements, and multi-sector partnerships. The role will safeguard institutional accountability and sustain the University’s competitive edge in the national and global research landscape.
Qualifications
Education:
- 4 year Undergraduate Degree
- Project Management Professional (PMP) designation or equivalent training/experience in project management
- Graduate degree in a related discipline considered an asset
Experience:
- 5 years’ project management experience, within a research-intensive, academic, government, industry, or non-profit setting
- Demonstrated experience managing complex, multi-stakeholder projects with strict timelines and deliverables
- Experience in financial oversight, including budget tracking and sponsor reporting requirements
- Experience interpreting and applying institutional or sponsor policies and procedures
- Experience in managing facilities and capital activities/projects is preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Strong knowledge of project management principles, tools, and best practices, with the ability to tailor approaches to complex research environments
- Knowledge of post-award grant and contract administration processes
- Project management skills to manage multiple projects simultaneously from conception to completion within tightly prescribed timelines
- Client service skills to understand client needs and expectations, with a desire to deliver helpful and reliable service to the University research community
- Ability to handle details with a high degree of accuracy and to organize and prioritize a high volume of work to meet deadlines
- Ability to understand, interpret, and effectively communicate University guidelines, policies and practices to key stakeholders
- Ability to evaluate issues, recognize potential problems and take action to proactively resolve issues
- Communication skills to translate information into easily understood terms, summarize information, provide a rationale for action and with an ability to complete detailed analytics and reports
- Proven ability and natural inclination to develop relationships by interacting with people in a professional, respectful and diplomatic manner
- Ability to work in a manner that models best practices in confidentiality standards
- A desire to grow and advance skills, which is demonstrated by attending conferences, workshops and other professional developmental opportunities to enhance performance
- Professional manner, tact, diplomacy and discretion in dealing with associates and colleagues including senior management
- Ability to provide guidance, support and feedback in a way that is positively received
- Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite
