Overall Responsibility:
The Materials Planner (Contract) is responsible for coordinating all inbound and outbound transportation activities to support production requirements at the Ingersoll Blanking Facility. This position will manage the scheduling and execution of inbound steel coil deliveries from suppliers and outbound finished blank shipments to customers, ensuring material flows efficiently, safely, and on time. This is a three-month contract position designed to support the Materials team during production ramp-up. The successful candidate will work closely with steel mills, transportation providers, customers, warehouse personnel, production, and internal planning teams to establish transportation processes, maintain delivery performance, and build a stable logistics baseline for ongoing operations.
Accountabilities:
- Coordinate all inbound steel coil transportation from mills and suppliers.
- Schedule and manage outbound shipments of finished blanks to customers.
- Monitor daily transportation schedules to ensure on-time pickups and deliveries.
- Communicate with carriers, suppliers, mills, and customers to coordinate transportation requirements.
- Resolve transportation delays, shortages, and scheduling issues while minimizing production impacts.
- Coordinate shipment releases based on production schedules and inventory requirements.
- Confirm shipment readiness, carrier assignments, and delivery timelines.
- Support the Materials team with material flow planning during production launch.
- Coordinate receiving schedules with warehouse and production teams.
- Monitor inventory levels to ensure adequate material availability and reduce expedited freight.
- Prepare, verify, and maintain shipping documentation, freight records, and delivery confirmations.
- Track inbound and outbound shipments and communicate status to internal stakeholders.
- Generate transportation reports and monitor key logistics performance metrics.
- Assist with freight cost tracking and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with company procedures, customer shipping requirements, and transportation standards.
- Collaborate with cross-functional departments to support operational objectives.
- Participate in daily production and logistics meetings and escalate transportation risks that could impact production or customer deliveries.
- Provide transportation and logistics support as production and launch requirements evolve.
Qualifications:
- Diploma in Materials/Logistics or equivalent
- Minimum 5 Years Relevant Experience
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Advanced Excel)
- Experience working with AS400 systems or other relevant MRP system.
- Advanced knowledge of inventory management skills and practices is required.
- Negotiation skills are preferred.
- MRP & MRP skills.
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- High degree of integrity
