The Quality Inspector is a detail-oriented and proactive professional responsible for ensuring that rigorous quality standards are consistently applied throughout the manufacturing process, with a primary focus on the Fabrication Department. Working collaboratively with Operations, Engineering, and Assembly teams, this role plays a key part in maintaining product integrity, reducing rework and waste, and ensuring customer expectations are met or exceeded.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Fabrication Quality Oversight

  • Maintain primary oversight of quality within the Fabrication Department.
  • Perform pre-weld inspections to verify proper fitment, layout, dimensional accuracy, and correct orientation of components prior to welding.
  • Conduct post-weld inspections to confirm weld quality, consistency, and dimensional accuracy before parts advance to weld clean or bead blast.
  • Perform ongoing quality checks following cleaning processes and through subsequent fabrication and assembly stages.

Welding Standards & Compliance

  • Ensure all welding activities adhere to approved Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS).
  • Audit welding equipment and workstations to verify correct consumables, settings, and work practices are in use and remain within WPS parameters.
  • Identify trends or recurring issues and work with Supervisors and Lead Hands to implement corrective actions.

Assembly & Final Product Quality

  • Partner with the Assembly Department to verify that assemblies meet internal quality standards and customer requirements prior to shipment.
  • Support final inspections as required to ensure systems are ready for release.

Shop-Wide Quality Audits & Spot Checks

  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled inspections across all areas of the facility, including:
  • Incoming inspection of raw materials from suppliers.
  • Verification of cut quality from laser and saw operations.
  • Dimensional verification of parts processed through brake press, router, and machining operations.
  • Inspection of pre-fabrication parts for proper deburring and preparation.
  • Inspection and verification of vendor-supplied materials, stock parts, and assembly components.

Documentation & Continuous Improvement

  • Accurately record inspection results and ensure quality data is accessible to relevant stakeholders.
  • Initiate and support Quality Improvement Process (QIP) documentation and assist with investigations and corrective actions as required.
  • Actively contribute to the development, implementation, and ongoing improvement of the company’s Quality Assurance program, with a focus on standardization, waste reduction, and process efficiency.

Training, Feedback & Safety

  • Work closely with Supervisors, Lead Hands, and Team Leads to provide constructive feedback related to quality performance.
  • Support identification of training and upskilling opportunities to ensure consistent workmanship standards across all fabrication personnel.
  • Actively monitor work practices to promote safe work habits and efficient task execution in accordance with company policies.
  • Always conduct oneself in a professional manner in alignment with Company values, including but not limited to language use, attire, and workmanship
  • In accordance with Company policy and relevant employment legislation, overtime and work outside of regular hours, and being on call may be required at the discretion of the company
  • All other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in a fabrication or manufacturing environment.
  • Red Seal Certification (437A) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret fabrication and assembly drawings.
  • Proficiency with a wide range of measuring equipment, including precision measuring tools.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt in a fast-paced, custom-manufacturing environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a collaborative, solutions-focused mindset.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
