DESCRIPTION:

Under the direction of the Director of Human Resources, the Faculty Relations Advisor supports King’s mission by providing expert, informed advice to academic leaders within King’s on matters relating to the employment of full time faculty. 

The Faculty Relations Advisor will:
  • Facilitate the resolution of labour and employment issues with faculty members, leaders and union representatives.
  • Utilize appropriate learning design and delivery pedagogy, they will collaborate with leaders to design and deliver programs and tools that enhance leadership and administrative skill. 
  • Ensure efficient and effective business process in supporting the administration of, and compliance with, collective agreements and policy.
  • Provide expert advice and support to faculty leaders on a diverse range of complex and often highly sensitive human resources matters including, but not limited to, equity diversity and inclusion priorities, recruitment, retention, performance, attendance management, conflict and dispute resolution, disability management, discipline, termination, workplace violence, bullying and harassment and King’s processes.
  • Provide interpretation and advice to administrators on collective agreements, policy and employment law. 
  • Manage King’s relationship with the union and advocates on King’s behalf in a manner which supports institutional goals and priorities.
  • Assist in the development of King’s labour relations strategy related to faculty.
  • Develop creative strategies for resolution of complex issues and disputes and facilitate resolution through investigation, consultation, analysis, mediation, negotiation and influence.
  • Assist with the negotiation process, drafting of collective agreements, letters of understanding and waivers.
  • Review and approve various administrative actions (postings, appointment letters, reduced workload agreements, phased retirements, overloads. etc.).
  • Work with Academic Dean’s Office and Departmental Chairs/School Directors to provide training with regards to duties and responsibilities within a collegial governance structure. 
  • Assist new and visiting faculty from outside of Canada to obtain Offer of Employment numbers. This can include oversight of LMIA and related work permits, and visiting scholar’s applications.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Effective September 7, 2021, all employees and visitors to campus are required to comply with King’s COVID-19 Vaccination Policy.
  • Hold a Bachelors/Honours Bachelor’s degree in Law, Human Resources or Labour Relations.
  • Minimum of five years of Faculty Relations experience or equivalent is required.
  • A Graduate degree in Industrial Relations or related field preferred.
  • Paralegal and/or Law experience is preferred.
  • Must have a Canadian Human Resources Leader (CHRL) Designation.
  • Possess excellent interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Exceptional problem-solving, conflict management and negotiation skills. 



TYPE OF JOB:

Full Time – 35 hours per week.
 
EFFECTIVE DATE:

As soon as possible.

SALARY RANGE:

PSG 15- $77,603 - $97,168 per annum, (dependant on experience)
