Shop Supervisor

Job Description

POSITION SCOPE / RESPONSIBILITIES:

Incumbent will be required to focus on daily production requirements of fabricating and welding in metal job shop, employee allocation, and scheduling needs. The incumbent will have working knowledge of CNC fabrication equipment and welders, be able to diagnose production problems, and instruct / assist employees in various job functions. Successful incumbent will have a number of years’ experience in leadership role within a metal fabricating shop.

Compensation: $60,000 - $65,000/yr depending on experience, plus benefits. 
 
Authority Levels:

Authority levels include: decision making, organization of work schedule, problem solving, delegation of work activities and fabrication, recruitment, development and discipline of employees

Specific Responsibilities:
  • Ensure all parts comply with the blueprint specifications and quality standards. Parts that are out of specification or damaged are to be segregated and quality assurance notified for disposition.
  • Utilize MRP system to run and maintain production schedule, delegating work activities
  • Attend meetings
  • Coordinate and supervise efficiently, daily production and manufacturing of parts.
  • Maintain a safe work environment by ensuring employees follow all Health and Safety Policies and Procedures in their daily work activities.
  • Delegate daily manufacturing activities to employees and monitors employees’ workmanship.
  • Set-up by means of forklift: ensure staged parts are organized and effectively placed for easy access to employees to reduce down time.
  • Assist and train employees on: the correct procedures for control of product, records, and various machine or equipment procedures.
  • Organize to ensure parts are separated by operations, controlled and organized through processes.
 
Working Conditions:

Physical Effort.
  • Walking, standing, sitting, bending, kneeling, and repetitive hand / wrist / finger / arm movements while using tools and equipment in order to perform the job


Physical Environment:
  • Industrial manufacturing environment: noise, weld smoke, fumes, oils, dust, degreasers, grease, Metal filings, compressed gases, paint thinners and cleaners.
  • Personal protective equipment provided and must be worn.


Sensory Attention:
  • Attention to detailed drawings relating to the product being manufactured.
  • Constant awareness that manufacturing processes meet customer specifications.
  • Industrial environment with many different processes/manufacturing occurring throughout the building constant awareness towards safety measures at all times


Mental Stress:
  • Pressure to meet time lines/ deadlines
  • Pressure to perform at maximum potential to meet Quality Assurance Standards.
 
Qualifications: (for recruiting purposes)
  • Grade twelve education or equivalent
  • Displays exemplary work ethics
  • Thorough knowledge of equipment and machinery within the plant
  • Competent computer skills.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes.
  • Holds a valid forklift license.
  • Valid First Aid Certificate required.
  • Excellent communication skills written and verbal
  • Team oriented (works well with others)
  • Positive mentoring skills
  • Positive attitude
  • Understands safe work practices
