Research Development & Services (RDS) and Office of Human Research Ethics (OHRE) are two centralized offices that provide the administrative infrastructure support to Western's research community for the development, facilitation and promotion of research activities at Western.
 
The Administrative Officer manages the efficient coordination of administrative operations for RDS/OHRE.  The incumbent provides guidance and support for a wide range of administrative, human resources, and financial functions and processes, and ensures they are carried out in compliance with all of Western's relevant administrative policies and procedures.  The Administrative Officer advises the Director, Finance & Administration in the resolution of administrative issues, and monitors and manages physical and financial resources and supplies.
 
Qualifications
Education:
-   University Degree, with completion of professional courses in Human Resources
-   Enrolled or completed CIM, CHRP or a professional accounting designation (CMA, CGA) is preferred
 
Experience:
-   5 years' progressive administration experience (HR, financial, administrative)
-   Experience in HR related activities with direct accountability for recruitment
-   Experience in financial processes, budgeting and accounting functions
-   Experience supporting the Human Resource function in a unionized setting
-   Experience in an academic setting or in the broader public sector is preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
-   Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to work in a respectful manner with a diverse community of faculty and staff, and ability to coach team members
-   Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
-   Advanced computer skills in Word, Excel, Outlook and database experience (PeopleSoft preferred)
-   Extremely organized, detail-oriented and superior multi-tasking skills
-   Understanding of privacy regulations and ability to work confidentially
-   Excellent judgment with the ability to make sound assessment of urgency and appropriate consultations for resolution
-   Creative problem solving skills, with a consultative and collaborative approach to addressing issues and opportunities, especially regarding confidential/sensitive matters
-   A well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation and conflict resolution skills
-   Knowledge of human resource principles, practices and demonstrated ability in human resource planning
-   Demonstrated analytical ability with a sound knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles
