Job Description
Reporting to the Produce Department Manager, the incumbent is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the produce backroom and to deliver high quality customer service to all internal and external customers. The performance of the duties must ensure a quality service approach to all employees, customers and suppliers. All responsibilities must be performed in a manner consistent with the Farm Boy Vision, Mission, and the Farm Boy Way.
Major Responsibilities:
- Supervise the produce backroom activities and ensure that all goals are properly communicated to staff and achieved
- Oversee the preparation of produce for the store in accordance with Farm Boy’s production and trimming standards, and ensure the training of produce staff on the required standards and techniques
- Oversee the packaging and pricing of the “reduced” products, and train staff on the standards associated with the reduced product program
- Supervise the produce cooler and ensure the proper rotation, quality and care of products, and cleanliness of the cooler at all times
- Maintain responsibility for the proper care, use and maintenance of all equipment
- Maintain the cleanliness of the produce backroom, production area and cooler using authorized chemicals
- Provide superior customer service and deal effectively with customer complaints or concerns
- Promote and lead by example and enforce company policy (as communicated in meetings, policy and procedure manuals, and employee handbooks, written directives, etc.)
- Ensure that the department area is kept clean and safe at all times
- Perform opening and closing procedures for the Department
- Assist, relieve, and train designated Department personnel as requested by the Department Manager
- May be requested to undertake other related duties on a periodic basis
STATEMENT OF QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Typically requires completion of a post-secondary program, plus 1 to 3 years of supervisory or management experience in the retail food industry, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Superior customer service skills
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
- Ability to learn manual and automated systems
- Good knowledge of retail industry and perishable food products
- Superior standards of quality
- Ability to make sound decisions and to carry out initiatives to their completion
- Clear and effective communication style, both written and oral
- Fluency in English and French shall be considered an asset
