POSITION SUMMARY:

The Supervisor, Cataloguing Services is responsible for the planning, organizing, processing and operation of TVDSB’s centralized Cataloguing Services department which provides support for school libraries across the system, in addition to supervising staff.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Maintain the cataloguing database of the records of all library resources across the school board. Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure the currency and integrity of that database

• Organize and coordinate the Board’s school library inventories

• Recruit, select, train, and develop all Cataloguing Services staff

• Provide on-line, telephone, and on-site support to Teacher Librarians

• Manage portfolio budget

• Catalogue library resources

 

WORK PERFORMED:

• Guide and direct the cataloguing process of library resource materials to support client base in schools and other facilities

• Monitor service delivery and respond to issues or inquiries

• Implement cataloguing standards and protocols to promote staff accountability

• Supervise staff and student employees including delegation of responsibilities, managing performance and conduct issues, completing performance appraisals and goal setting activities

• Arrange professional development opportunities for staff

• Participate in the recruitment and selection of staff

• Liaise with Principals, teachers, and site administrators to coordinate services

• Participate on centralized and department committees and provide recommendations regarding strategic plans

• Develop and deliver training to school-based staff regarding cataloguing services

• Monitor inventory and maintain associated documentation

• Collect and interpret inventory statistics

• Liaise with book vendors

• Manage cataloguing databases

• Collaborate with the Learning Technologies Coordinator with the responsibility for Libraries

• Assume system manager responsibilities in the absence of the Supervisor, Library Automation and Resources

 

QUALITIES/SKILLS/SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE:

• Knowledge of Cataloguing databases, Resource Description and Access (RDA), Library of Congress Subject headings, Structured Query Language (SQL), Web Dewey Decimal system and Thames Valley Absence Reporting and Replacement Information System (TVARRIS)

• Proficient in computer systems such as Outlook 365, MS Office Suite, etc.

• Excellent interpersonal skills with effective communication skills, both orally and in writing

• Ability to work both independently and part of a team

• Understand the importance of equity as it pertains to book selection and cataloguing responsibilities

 

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

• Completion of a two (2) year post-secondary Diploma in Library and Information Technician or equivalent

• Bachelors Degree and knowledge of Children’s Literature is an asset

• Three (3) years of related work experience is required
