School Accountant

Grand Erie District School Board represents more than 28,000 students in 58 elementary schools and 14 secondary schools within the City of Brantford and the counties of Brant, Haldimand and Norfolk, as well as students from Six Nations of the Grand River First Nation and Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. With a dedicated staff of more than 2,900, Grand Erie is committed to learning, leading and inspiring. 

Responsibilities:
  • Work with all levels of management to promote and improve financial literacy at the school level
  • Provide (remote and onsite) training and support to school administration on financial tasks and responsibilities
  • Administer, train and support the use of accounting software and the School Cash On-suite product
  • Support schools by reviewing and advising on school transactions to ensure compliance with Board policies and procedures and monitoring of school budgets
  • Prepare and process year-end reports, account adjustments, journal entries etc.
  • Conduct school banking and enrolment audits and provide feedback and support to implement recommendations
  • Administer school donation and scholarship programs
  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliations
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Candidates must have a Diploma or Degree in Accounting or Business Administration
  • Minimum three years of experience in an equivalent role.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with a CPA designation or candidates who are actively pursuing their CPA designation.
  • Excellent knowledge of computer applications and knowledge of accounting/business principles.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team and independently
  • Strong time management skills
 

Job Specifications
Hours of Work 7 hours per day/35 hours per week
Rate of Pay Hiring Range $71,308 – $78,601
Salary Range $71,308 - $81,032
