Job Description
carter's inc. Canada, a growing national retailer of children's apparel, requires a Director of Finance (16 Month Contract) for our Corporate Head Office in Cambridge, Ontario.
Reporting directly to the Vice President – Finance and Planning, the incumbent in this position will be responsible for the following:
- Accountability for the timely and accurate completion of all month-end closing procedures including the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual legal entity financial statements and internal reports.
- Ensuring all significant transactions have been reviewed, approved and received appropriate accounting treatment, and that any issues have been investigated.
- Performing analytical reviews of period end reports and analysis of close activity, (including income statement and balance sheet) and investigating all anomalies to ensure appropriate accounting treatment.
- Accountability for the integrity and timeliness of financial information provided to U.S. parent organization, as well as, any government reporting on an as needed basis.
- Providing leadership to a team ensuring that work is done accurately, efficiently and complies with policies, procedures and standards, as well as, best working practices.
- Providing guidance, motivation, development and performance reviews, including hiring, performance managing and terminating employees, to maintain and enhance competency levels, identify future training requirements and achieve goals to improve performance.
- Managing external and internal auditors’ requirements to coordinate and complete quarterly financial reviews and year-end financial audits.
- Participating cross-functionally with other departments to provide accurate and timely information, as required.
- Ensuring compliance with internal controls, including Sarbanes-Oxley, and U.S. GAAP.
- Driving improvements in operating efficiencies, current policies and procedures and internal controls.
- Ad-hoc reporting and special projects as required.
- Leading a team of 10 with 4 direct reports.
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education equivalent to a University degree in Commerce, Finance, Accounting or related field.
- CA designation.
- 10+ years of accounting, business, finance or equivalent experience.
- 5+ year leading and developing a team of professionals.
- Strong Leadership, coaching and people development skills.
- Solid understanding of Canadian and US GAAP and IFRS a plus
- Advanced understanding of complex financial statement preparation, accounting policies, practices, procedures and guidelines and continuous disclosure requirements and risks of non-compliance.
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
- Provides solutions by using imaginative approaches where constructive thinking and innovation are required.
- Decisions are typically broad based in nature, and occasionally with yet to be defined solutions
- Adaptable to set and prioritize work with multiple exceptions.
- Able to work with diverse personalities and styles towards a common goal.
- Strong computer skills to produce effective reports, documents, spreadsheets and presentations.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills. Communicates with clarity and can effectively and concisely convey concepts, thoughts and ideas to others.
