Job Description

Facilities Management (FM) is responsible for the planning, development, construction, operation, maintenance and stewardship of all the buildings, infrastructure, sites and services within Western's campus community.
The Horticulturist is responsible for planting and maintaining University grounds using proper horticultural practices for respective seasons. The incumbent is expected to provide efficient and courteous service to customers and support to coworkers.
Education:
- Diploma in Horticulture from a recognized educational institution
- Valid Ministry of the Environment Landscape Exterminators Licence
- Integrated Pest Management Certification
- Valid Ontario Drivers D Licence with Z endorsement
Experience:
- Three years practical experience in landscape construction or grounds maintenance
- Experience with Horticultural spraying
Skills & Expertise:
- Communicates clearly both orally and in writing
- Ability to listen fully and respond courteously to instructions, questions and comments
- Ability to establish a rapport with customers, supervisors and peers
- Ability to perform physical labour: bending, digging, lifting, transporting, reaching, twisting and raking
- Investigates, identifies, analyzes and resolve problems successfully
- Demonstrated organizational skills with work materials and tools
- Initiates action and completes assigned tasks in accordance with departmental policies and procedures
- Dependable, cooperative and performs well under pressure
- Ability to work well in a team environment and support staff in the shop or on the job site, with minimal supervision
Prior to an offer of employment a current Police Information Check (PIC) will be required.
