Quality Manager

Job Description

The Quality Manager’s responsibilities are to effectively monitor, control and continually improve the quality aspects of all Company manufacturing and servicing processes of products, parts, sub-assemblies, including managing, and coordinating with Customer Service, the servicing of products returned for repair.
Continually ensure compliance with all areas of ISO 9000 and CMMI, essential workmanship standards to exceed customer expectations and quickly identify any areas of concern.
 
Must have a “hands on” approach to all aspects of the job.
 
Reports to: General Manager

Prerequisite:  
Bachelor's Degree or College Diploma in Engineering, Applied Science, or equivalent, with a minimum of five to ten years post-graduation working experience in electronics system manufacturing that includes a senior level supervisory role.
 
Experience with quality systems, including ISO 9001, as well as an understanding of product life cycle, as well as dealing with Quality Audits and both supplier and customer issues on-site and in the field.
 
Experience with formal software engineering methodologies and software development lifecycle, ideally in a CMMI Level II environment
 
Must have excellent computer, written & oral communication and organizational skills.
 
Ability to travel without restrictions within Canada and the USA and potentially overseas for technical meetings and/or product support.
  
Key Duties:
  • Manage Quality Assurance department (Software QA Technician,  Quality Technician(s) and  and provide field support, as required, to customers for quality related issues
  • Manage Service “product servicing” activities (by coordinating with Customer Service the servicing of products returned for repair) including monitoring and maintaining all service and issuing applicable failure analysis reports and corrective actions.
  • Maintain a program to identify and reduce the cost of non-conformance within Bach-Simpson.
  • Provide quality support to all areas of the company, including customer service, manufacturing and engineering.
  • Qualify existing and potential vendors regarding sub-contract manufacture. Continuously evaluate the “buy vs. make” decision in conjunction with Purchasing and Production.
  • Hands on “working manager” able to perform basic testing and inspection tasks when required, and manage personnel with the ability to train and direct junior level technicians and assemblers on the QA processes.
  • Ensure that all parts, sub-assemblies and assemblies meet or exceed standards for acceptable quality as outlined in appropriate drawings and/or process standards either directly or through other controlled means.
  • Identify non-conformities, facilitate failure analyses and associated corrective actions in all areas of concern related to product design, manufacturing, service and overall quality.
  • Develop, implement and track methods to reduce failures from sub-contract manufacturing, assembly and test procedures and warranty returns. Ensure QC support personnel are trained in various statistical or charting techniques required in any quality improvement actions.
  • Responsible for ensuring company employees are trained, as appropriate, in the use of general assembly/testing techniques, specialized processes and procedures.
  • Ensure that inspection equipment is calibrated and maintained in compliance with ISO 9000, Company and industry standards.
  • Identify and implement, in conjunction with Production, process improvements to ensure or improve quality.
