The Pathways to Prosperity (P2P) Partnership is a national partnership funded by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada designed to provide an evidence base for settlement and integration policies and programs in Canada. As the leading immigration research network in Canada, P2P has a proven track record of productivity and effectiveness, completing projects for government departments and practitioners that have been widely cited and integrated into the organization and operation of these groups. The Partnership supports service provision and promotes welcoming communities for immigrants in Canada through rigorous practical research and effective knowledge mobilization practices.

Responsibilities

 

Responsibilities

Reporting to and under the guidance of the Principal Investigator of the Pathways to Prosperity Partnership and the P2P Communication Manager, the Communication Coordinator/Officer will be responsible for carrying out a variety of communication-related tasks including:

  • Maintain and build relationships with local and national media

  • Prepare press releases, write op-eds, and create media toolkits about P2P research and events

  • Monitor the success of media relations by tracking the coverage received

  • Prepare content for P2P website, and use content management system to maintain and update P2P website

  • Liaise with external website developers to re-design website pages and launch compelling new sections aligned with P2P’s vision

  • Maintain an editorial calendar for P2P eBulletins and design engaging eBulletins using email marketing platforms such as MailChimp and ConstantContact

  • Write and edit content for P2P eBulletin, and coordinate with external and internal content contributors

  • Maintain subscription database

  • Manage existing P2P twitter channel; Set-up and grow other social media channels including Instagram and LinkedIn

  • Create social media posts and schedule content as required

  • Track and analyze social media and website metrics

  • Develop communications resources such as social media toolkits and presentation templates to support P2P stakeholders  

  • Copy-edit and proofread P2P materials as required

  • Develop infographics to showcase key insights of P2P research and activities

  • Set up and manage zoom meetings and webinars

  • Other duties as required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Degree in Journalism, Media, English, Public Relations, Communications or related program

  • 2+ years experience in media relations, website management, and social media management in the academic, public, human services, or not-for-profit sector

  • Proven ability to implement communication strategies

  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills with excellent attention to detail

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, multitask, meet tight deadlines and adapt to changing priorities

  • Proficient in graphic design software such as Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Canva

  • Advanced knowledge of Office 365 including Publisher, Word, Excel, PowerPoint

  • Advanced knowledge of content management systems including WordPress and mail management systems such as Constant Contact, Mailchimp

  • Experience with social media and building impact with social media content

  • Ability to analyze website and social media metrics

  • Proven experience in building and maintaining media relations

  • Experience in creating eye-catching infographics on research findings is an asset

  • Knowledge of meeting platforms: Zoom, Teams and other virtual event platforms 

  • Ability to work independently, while being a collaborative and communicative team member

  • Willing to learn and embrace emerging technology
