Position Summary:

Reporting to the Director, Capital Redevelopment, the Manager, Physical Plant & Property ensures the delivery of efficient and effective services to the hospital, its patients, staff and visitors. This position is responsible for managing the operation and maintenance of the facility, and assisting in the planning, implementation and co-ordination of construction and/or renovation projects as assigned. Responsibilities also include the management of Biomedical Engineering, Maintenance and administration of contracted services that encompass Security Services, Parking, Snow Removal and Grounds. The Manager is accountable for the preparation and monitoring of the budget of approximately $3.5 million.

 

The Manager, Physical Plant & Property accountabilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Maintaining records and developing policies and procedures in accordance with federal and provincial regulations and professional standards concerning the operation of the Hospital’s physical facilities.
  • Effective management of the Maintenance and Biomedical Engineering departments.
  • Ensuring the provision of continuous services to the Hospital including HVAC, water systems, electrical services, fire alarm and firefighting systems and auxiliary systems.
  • Participating as an active member on various committees, including: Operations, Emergency Response, Joint Occupational Health and Safety, etc.
  • Acts as the hospital Fire Marshall.
  • Coordinates implementation of Hospital Infrastructure Redevelopment Fund capital projects.
  • Facilitating continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Monitoring and approving purchases associated within the designated portions of the budgets assigned, including supplies, hospital-wide maintenance, outside contractors, etc.
  • In conjunction with the Purchasing Department, obtaining pricing for contracted services in various initiatives in accordance with procurement policies and procedures.
  • Authorization of payments to contractors and vendors.
  • Developing cost analysis for various vendors to ensure the Hospital is receiving optimum pricing for parts, supplies, etc.
  • Developing proposals for capital requests and purchases.
  • Scheduling and coordinating projects to maintain or enhance utility services to the Hospital.
  • Ensuring there is an effective preventative maintenance program in place for Biomedical Engineering and Maintenance.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Relevant post secondary degree, in addition to a recognized professional/technical designation required.
  • Minimum 7 years of related leadership/management experience of a Plant Operations and Maintenance department in a healthcare facility required.
  • Demonstrated competencies in time management, priority setting, project and meetings management, and presentation skills essential.
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal and strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Well-developed organizational skills, with the ability to work effectively with multi-disciplinary teams and commitment to continuous professional growth.
  • Ability to work within a complex, dynamic, team-based work environment.
  • Ability to manage specific performance standards and to hold staff accountable for performance.

  • Ability to work in a changing and growing environment.
  • Driven to achieve results and to find opportunities to continuously improve service.
  • Computer experience including Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and facility maintenance related programs is required.
