Position Title Operations Trainer (Temporary 12 Months)
Position Overview Reporting directly to the Manager, Sewers, Traffic and Operational Support, the position is responsible for coordinating and providing health and safety training, vehicle and equipment training as well as tracking mandatory license requirements for Operations staff.
Responsibilities
  • Monitors, assesses, tests and upgrades operators to properly and safely operate selected Operations Division’s equipment i.e. truck and trailer, tractor etc.
  • Ensures that staff are compliant to all training requirements set out in Job Progression Criteria.
  • Administers project and contract schedules.
  • Acquires goods and services from external organizations.
  • Promotes the development of quality assurance programs and trains or facilitates training.
  • Identifies training needs and designs; presents and customizes programs in keeping with adult learning principles.
  • Provides leadership, technical assistance and guidance to field personnel.
  • Monitors quality of work and provides on the job training.
  • Resolves customer complaints in accordance with policies.
  • Liaises with Fleet Division to provide input into new vehicle specifications and selection.
  • Chair of committees related to training.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements  
  • 3 year post secondary education in a relevant field
  • Preference will be given to candidates with education related to training practices and/or procedures.
  • Minimum 2 years of related working experience.
  • Must possess valid Ontario class "G" driver's license in good standing.
  • Must have verifiable “Train the Trainer” experience.
  • Demonstrated training and training coordination experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with construction materials, methods and practices, including job site safety.
  • Demonstrated problem solving and analytical abilities.
  • Must be knowledgeable of CVOR Regulations/Hours of Service Regulations.
  • Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Must have developed facilitation, conflict resolution, negotiation, and leadership skills to support, lead and assist teams.
  • Demonstrated experience using office software such as Microsoft Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Outlook. 
  • Must have knowledge required of government regulations and legislation pertinent to fleet safety, vehicle safety, equipment operation, commercial motor vehicles, accident investigation and detection, and corrective techniques associated with hazards and unsafe conditions.
  • Strong analytical and presentation skills to provide advice and education regarding safety issues.
  • Must have proven time-management skills in order to prioritize and manage multiple projects.
  • Preference will be given to candidates familiar with relevant municipal government policies and procedures, including purchasing policies, and legal and contractual requirements.
  • Preference will be given to candidates possessing a valid, recognized Defensive Driving (DDC) and Professional Driver Improvement (PDIC) Instructors Certificate or equivalent.
  • Previous experience with PeopleSoft is an asset
