Facilities Supervisor

Job Description

We currently have a full-time opportunity available for a Facilities Supervisor.  Reporting to the Director of Facilities, the Facilities Supervisor is responsible to assist the Director in the day-to-day management and supervision of all operational and maintenance requirements of the physical facilities, grounds, security, parking and ancillary operations of the hospital. This includes the direct supervision and scheduling of Facilities staff, along with coordinating contracted service representatives.  The Facilities Supervisor monitors and follows up with staff to ensure adherence to hospital policies, codes and standards for operational and preventative maintenance schedules, systems inspections and work schedules for special projects, and ensures that Facilities work is carried out in a safe, efficient and timely manner. 

Qualifications and Experience required: 

  • Certified trade (e.g.) Stationary Engineer, or Certified Building Environmental Systems Class 1, or Certified Engineering Technologist
  • Minimum five years experience working in a facilities maintenance operation
  • Minimum two years experience directly supervising staff, preferably in a unionized workplace
  • Demonstrated knowledge, skills and experience regarding operational and maintenance requirements for equipment and systems for the physical facilities, grounds and ancillary operations, preferably  gained from working in a hospital
  • Strong organizational skills, with demonstrated ability to multi task within a fast- paced, high volume, results-oriented environment
  • Demonstrated excellence in decision making and critical thinking
  • Effective team player with demonstrated ability to motivate staff, and work well with various groups both within the organization and externally
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated computer skills, knowledge and experience in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel, and a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS)
  • Ability to read blueprints and do mathematical calculations
  • Must be physically fit to perform duties as assigned including the ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl to inspect systems in remote areas that are difficult to access; ability to work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions; ability to adapt from high to normal to very low lighting conditions in order to work in a safe and effective manner

 This position will contribute to ensuring there is a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors.
