Job Summary
 
Compiles data, researches existing and potential new suppliers for cost effective products.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
 
  • Compares prices, specifications and qualifications of products required for production of Customer goods
  • Confers with suppliers concerning cost and cost reduction ideas
  • Works with Sales/Engineering to support Customer requests
  • Reading drawings and interpreting requirements
  • Compiling data for supplier capabilities
  • Visiting suppliers to confirm capabilities and processes
  • Create and maintain standard cost files for commodities
  • Participate in APR discussions with suppliers
  • Issue purchase orders for production material as required
  • Determine and work with suppliers/warehouse on new packaging requirements
  • VA/VE Activities
  • Set and Meet Annual Cost Reduction Targets by Commodity
 
Job Qualifications
 
Education
  • Diploma/Degree from College or University; and one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Proven Negotiation skills
  • Cost Analysis/Breakdown Understanding
 
Training
  • WHMIS
 
Computer Skills
  • Internet software, inventory software, manufacturing software, project management software, spreadsheet software, word processing software
 
Working Conditions
           
Physical Effort and Requirements of this Position
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit. Occasionally required to stand, walk and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs.
 
Intellectual Activities and Requirements of this Position
Language Skills
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as; drawings, quotations, specifications, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organizations

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and working in high precarious places. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
