Basic Function:

Assist the licensed Mechanics with major and minor service, repairs and maintenance on County vehicles and equipment, both at the Norfolk County Garage and at off-site locations

Position Description:

• Assist licensed Mechanic in carrying out major repairs and maintenance such as engine overhauls, transmission clutch changes and hub stripping and re-assembly on County trucks and equipment (gasoline, diesel, propane) both at the Norfolk County Garage and at off-site locations
• Assist licensed Mechanic in carrying out minor repairs and maintenance such as oil changes, tune-ups, brakes, MTO safety inspections, etc.
• Carry out maintenance and housekeeping duties in garage and yard
• Process work orders
• Complete daily logbook
• Hand load construction and maintenance materials on a daily basis
• Spot loads and unloads materials and equipment with loaders such as snow plows, salt and sand spreaders
• Shuttle vehicles in and out of the garage
• Shuttle vehicles to and from service contractors
• Pick up parts from suppliers
• Organize vehicles and equipment in the yard
• Maintain and inspect spare vehicles used by the fleet yard
• Check over spare vehicles as required
• Check the working order of two way radios in vehicles
• Perform annual service on keyless equipment
• Assist with the preparation of items for annual auction
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

Knowledge and Experience:

• Grade 12
• Over one year and up to two years’ experience with familiar scope of position, or equivalent previous experience
• Valid province of Ontario Class “DZ” licence and access to a reliable vehicle

Skills and Abilities:

• Computer expertise in corporate standard software (Microsoft Office) and department specific software to data search and entry and to create and modify word processed documents
• Must be aware of safe work practices as they relate to job responsibilities and work environment, and have the basic understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
