QUALIFICATIONS:
• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Post Secondary training as a welder is preferred.
• Current CWB welding ticket(s) preferred.
• frequently introduced, upgrade knowledge and skills on an ongoing basis.
• Must have five years MIG welding experience, related technical competence and a good understanding of production processes & welding equipment.
• Candidates must be able to successfully pass a blueprint reading as well as a weld test. Observe signs in the workplace that communicate safety information such as signs showing where there are high noise levels. Review notes on blueprints and/or welding procedures specifications (WPS) to review messages from engineering department about materials and procedures.
• Ability to add various combinations of a structure's pieces prior to ordering materials for a project in order to avoid ordering excess amounts. Measure pieces for structures using International System of Units (SI) to the Imperial measurement system; and convert measurements from both systems as required.
• Ability to communicate with tool room staff to ask for tools, supplies and personal protective equipment. Discuss work assignments with supervisor to understand expectations.
• Has had training on how to operate and adjust Yaskawa Motoman welding equipment is necessary, if welders are operating robotic welding machines. Decide when and how to control temperature during welding process to avoid metallurgical problems, in particular cracking. Decide on most efficient use of materials during construction to minimize waste.
• Ability to work independently and in a team setting. Majority of tasks are completed independently, but must work with other team members, including fitters, other welders, and supervisors, to plan work, confirm measurements and calculations, assist co-workers with tasks, and to schedule sharing of equipment.
• Ability to input data and operate plasma cutting machines, orbital welders and any other computer controlled equipment.
• Welders are required by various codes (i.e. CSA, ASME) to retake practical tests within a specific period of time. Attend sessions hosted by suppliers about new products, such as grinding wheels, welding rods, gases. As innovations in consumables such as gases and rods, equipment, welding applications and processes are

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Operate robotic welding equipment to produce scissors assemblies and fabricated metal parts.
• Load and unload parts, check quality of welds and do basic troubleshooting.
• Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments using processes such as MIG, gas metal arc (GMAW) and Stick, shielded metal arc (SMAW).
• Position parts in jigs or fixtures on bench or floor, or clamp parts together along layout marks.
• Select torch, torch tip, filler rod and flux, according to welding chart specifications or type and thickness of metal.
• Connect regulator valves and hoses to oxygen and fuel gas cylinders and welding torch.
• Turn regulator valves to activate flow of gases, light torch and adjust gas mixture and pressure, to obtain desired flame, based on knowledge of gas-welding techniques.
• Hold torch at proper angle to metal and guides along weld joint, applying filler rod to molten area to form weld.
• Examine weld for bead size and other specifications.
• Perform basic troubleshooting of welding machine and welding accessories.
• Repair bad welds, fix broken or cracked metal objects, fill holes and build up metal parts.
• Chip or grind off excess weld, slag or spatter.
• A high degree of adherence to quality standards is mandatory, as welds are visible and welding work must be done correctly.
• Welder performing welding work must stamp welds by using their own welding stamp.
• Perform other duties/projects as assigned.
