MANAGER OF PREVENTION, EDUCATION & TRAINING
Purpose and Role of Position:
The Manager of Prevention, Education & Training addresses the root causes of sexual and gender based violence and advocates for its prevention in the communities of London and Middlesex County. The Manager is responsible for managing, coordinating and implementing prevention programming and projects in settings such as, but not limited to, community, businesses, schools and other community based services.
Job Summary:
The Manger is accountable for developing and delivering public education, internal agency training relating to research, diverse outreach, and engagement to the community. This position ensures that our agency has leading edge education and awareness strategies and tools that meet the needs of diverse stakeholders.
Job Qualifications:
Masters degree in Community Development, Education, Policy, or Women’s Studies. Individuals without a master’s degree, that have equivalent knowledge of policy, outreach and feminist approaches will be considered.
Job Responsibilities:
Responsibility: Research and Public Education
· Develop and implement long-term goals and objectives, in collaboration, to achieve the successful outcome of the program, both internally and externally
· Plan the delivery of the public education program, resources and activities in accordance with the mission and the goals of the organization based on the strategic priorities and identified priority populations
· Manage the intake of presentation requests, confirmation of presentations and other details
· Research new initiatives, support and manage the development of public education workshops and professional training packages on various topics reflecting the vision and mission of our agency
· Support and coordinate the delivery of in-service training to community agencies
· Research and develop new initiatives to support the strategic direction of the organization by staying up-to-date on research based sexual and gender based violence prevention strategies, programs and issues
· Develop funding proposals for the program to ensure the continuous delivery of services
· Ensure program activities operate within the policies and procedures of the organization and comply with all relevant legislation and professional standards
· Develop, track and report on a quarterly basis to evaluate the impact of the Public Education Program
· Monitor and review monthly / quarterly program and project reports and assist in the completion of annual funding reports and proposals related to the program
· Participate in the agency’s online presence through blogs, Twitter and FB
Responsibility: Diversity / Anti-Oppressive Outreach
· Collaborate with diverse community partners to promote inclusiveness and anti-violence initiatives
· Develop diversity and anti-oppressive initiatives for inclusion in the public education programming and policies as well as within our agency.
· Manage the organization of community displays
Responsibility: Engagement, Development and Activism
· Work collaboratively with the Director of Community Programs and Executive Director to develop and implement communication strategies and undertake policy development which will broaden agency impact and overall messaging
· In collaboration with other managers, develop internal staff training strategy and continued education
· Participate in a coordinated response on select community committees as required.
· Create, implement and evaluate communication strategies and plans that align with the organization’s strategic plan
· Manage coordination of Sexual Assault Month Event and other community awareness events
· Increase community partners’ capacity to understand sexual and gender based violence from a feminist, anti-oppression/ anti-racism lens
Responsibility: Staff Supervision / Development
· Supervise the Public Education Coordination and project staff, including coaching and possible disciplinary action if required
· Collaborate in providing both formal and informal suggestions and training at the individual and group level according to evaluated needs
· Ensuring review and follow up of Incident Reports
· Providing written performance appraisal for supervised staff (collaborating with other managers, Executive Director)
· Participating in the orientation and training of new staff
· Delivering and / or facilitating staff in-service and peer consultations
· Keeping self updated in own profession, demonstrating continuous learning
Responsibility: Administrative Duties
· Ensure appropriate and sufficient resources are available to staff and clients within the needs of the whole agency and budget availability
· Ensure working knowledge of, and staff adherence to appropriate legislation (e.g. Occupational Health and Safety, WHMIS, Employment Standards, Bill 168, AODA etc.)
· Participate in Leadership Team Meetings, Internal Committees and ad hoc meetings as required
· Maintain health, fire, medical and emergency procedures to ensure the day-to-day safety of clients, volunteers and staff
· Provide monthly written report for input into the monthly Board reporting process
· Provide Manager-on-call coverage on a rotating schedule
· Collaborate with other managers, when needed, in reporting information quarterly on government reports
· Monitoring statistics and collaborative completion of the Ministry of the Attorney General reports
· Coordinate the selection, supervision and evaluation of student placements and communicate with HR
Responsibility: Budget
· Assist in the development of a comprehensive budget for the agency.
· Monitor and report on line item variances and review same with the Executive Director
· Collaborate as a member of the management team in the overall development of the agency budget
· Develop and monitor an annual budget for public education and projects
Responsibility: Other Supervisory Duties
· Participate in designated agency committee work activities
· Assist in any management issue identified as needing attention
· Model respect at work principles and skills while carrying out daily activities as well as helping others practice them with each other and their customers
· Follow the Occupational Health and Safety Act as to the specific duties of workplace supervisors as well as maintain basic H&S certification
Responsibility:Occasional Duties
· Maintain current knowledge of regulatory requirements such as Residential Tenancies Act and other relevant housing legislation
· Participate in orientation/training of new staff, students, and volunteers
· Participate in the maintenance on-call rotation
· Attend regular staff meetings, team meetings, and training sessions as appropriate and/or required
· Participate on agency committees as appropriate and/or required
· Follow Anova policies and procedures as documented and required
· Maintain a current awareness of gender-based violence, issues related to women and current data specific to Anova
· Model Respect at Work principles and skills while carrying out daily activities
· Deal effectively with job related stress including assessing personal need for time off and/or professional development
· Other duties as assigned
