Plant Manager
Our client, a successful and profitable manufacturer in the Guelph area is seeking to hire a Plant Manager to lead their team. This position is responsible for the overall performance and operations of the Plant; to manufacture product safely in an environmentally sound fashion with a quality focus to consistently meet customer requirements.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Administer and authorize manufacturing operational plans stemming from business strategies and needs.  Ensures that plant manufacturing cost is within plan.
  • Participate in complex manufacturing issues, taking part in problem solving, providing direction and/or recommending solutions to those having the responsibility for the functional areas affected.
  • In concert with Sales/Corporate, control what and how products are made at the plant.
  • Be involved with and support LSS manufacturing activities for over-all plant efficiency improvements.
  • Accountable for the SHE performance at the facility and ensure that performance is continually improved.
  • Participate and advise on SHE issues and/or initiatives.  Actively support and provide resources to initiatives.
  • Ensure that the plant conforms to all applicable SHE provincial and federal legislation.
  • Accountable for the quality performance of the plant and ensuring that performance is continually improved with respect to plant quality returns, generation of non conforming product, NSR, perfect delivery performance and customer complaints.
  • Ensures that the plant is in compliance with its ISO certificate (yearly management review of quality system)
  • Ensures that customer issues related to plant issues are immediately addressed. 
  • Ensures that the plant produces product that is stable and in contol.
  • Facilitate monthly leadership meetings with management group where plant performance will be reviewed.
  • Meet with union leadership regularly to discuss labour relations issues.
  • Compile plant wide information and disseminate this information in a monthly report. 
Qualifications:
  • Chemical or Mechanical Engineering degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in progressive leadership positions in manufacturing.
  • Union experience is preferred.
  • Six sigma/Lean background would be an asset.
  • Chemical, process or batch production knowledge and experience is highly desired but will consider other backgrounds on merit.
  • Excellent leadership and people skills a must; Must be able to balance change initiatives with long tenured workforce.
  • Must be willing to be hands-on and a ‘go-getter’ mentality.
