LIMS Specialist

This temporary, full-time position (of approximately 3 years) is a great opportunity for a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) expert with knowledge of laboratory operations, ISO 17025 requirements and CALA quality system requirements, to join the Region of Waterloo.

As a LIMS Specialist, you will develop and maintain the LIMS application for the Region's Environmental Enforcement & Laboratory Services (EE&LS) and associated clients. In addition, you will troubleshoot and resolve LIMS-related issues and modify the system, as required.

To assume the role of LIMS Specialist, you will have the following profile:

  • Working knowledge of laboratory operations and ISO quality systems requirements, LIMS software administration, and LIMS networking, interfacing and programming skills, acquired through a 3-year university degree in Science or Computer Science, plus 3 years of operational lab experience working as a LIMS administrator.
  • Knowledge of Regional standards, policies and practices, the Ontario Safe Drinking Water Act, Ministry of the Environment (MOE) laboratory licensing legislation, the Environmental Protection Act, the Ontario Water Resource Act, CALA quality system requirements, and ISO 17025 requirements.
  • Organization and time management skills to plan work, meet deadlines, and fulfil analytical, quality and client requirements.
  • Communication skills to provide training, explain technical procedures, communicate with professional, technical and information technology employees, exchange information with vendors or product support staff, respond to inquiries and complaints from clients, and participate as an effective team member.
  • Ability to input and maintain information accurately to ensure data integrity and validity.
  • Computer skills with industry-standard LIMS software and MS Office.
  • Proficiency in LIMS requirements gathering and implementation methodologies, including how to modify data fields.
  • Ability to administer and troubleshoot standard interfaces with other corporate applications, analyze and interpret technical and statistical data, present information in a logical format, diagnose and resolve data problems, and create and edit Crystal report forms.
  • Ability to travel within and outside Waterloo Region.
  • Ability to support and project values compatible with the organization.
