Job Description
Our client, an automotive manufacturer, in the North Waterloo\Stratford area is looking for a Health and Safety Specialist to join their team.

Purpose:
- To maintain and develop the Health and Safety program
- To support Associates and Management in all aspects of Occupational Health and Safety
- Respond to Health and Safety inquiries from Associates and Management.
- Ensure all Occupational Health and Safety legislative requirements are met.
- Assist with various Health and Safety programs (i.e. Contractor, WHMIS, First Aid, hearing conservation, flu shots etc).
- Develop/update/assist with health and safety related policies and procedures including handbook.
- Schedule and conduct various safety related training (i.e. WHMIS, Emergency Response Team, orientation etc), and organize external training as required.
- Conduct various safety testing (i.e. heat monitoring, noise level testing)
- Actively participate in JHSC meetings, issues, investigations, etc.
- Plan and coordinate Safety Week activities in conjunction with Health and Safety Specialists.
- Administration of WSIB / Early Safe Return to work/modified duties activities.
- Prepare Term Safety Reports, NA Safety Group Presentation, statistics, and special projects as assigned.
- Develop Health and Safety business term goals in conjunction with Human Resources and Safety Manager.
- Act as Safety Representative with MOL for visits, orders, work refusals, etc.
- Maintain Training Matrix, H&S Term Implementation schedule, etc.
- Assist with Safety Group projects including developing policies, auditing etc.
- Ensure Safety Tip and safety stats get added to General Meeting weekly.
- Develop countermeasures for CARS in a timely manner.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Post-Secondary Diploma / Degree in Occupational Health & Safety; Human Resources Management or equivalent
- 3 to 5 years demonstrated Health and Safety/HR generalist experience working in a manufacturing environment, preferably automotive.
- Hands on experience working with Health & Safety/Human Resources legislation and regulations.
- 1-2 years of recruitment experience.
- Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.
- Intermediate to advanced computer skills (i.e. PowerPoint, Word, Excel).
- Outgoing, positive, energetic and supportive personality.
- Organized and has the ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities.
- Experience working in a team-based environment.
- Demonstrated aptitude for superior customer service.
- Strong WSIB experience in claims management, including disputing claims, NEER etc.
- Ability to speak in front of a group.
- Ability to deal with difficult situations.
