Software Designer/Developer
Location:  Waterloo, Ontario -or- Owen Sound, Ontario

Key Responsibilities:
  • Analyze new requirements from users and present ideas for system improvements, including cost proposals
  • Investigate new technologies, research, design and write new software programs
  • Work closely with other staff, such as project managers, graphic artists, designers, developers, systems analysts, and sales and marketing professionals to develop existing programs and systems by analyzing and identifying areas for modification
  • Integrate existing software products and get incompatible platforms to work together
  • Produce detailed technical specifications and test plans for developed software
  • Test the product in controlled, real situations before going live
  • Consulting with clients/colleagues concerning the maintenance and performance of software systems and asking questions to obtain information, clarify details and implement information;
  • Preparation of training manuals for users
  • Consulting with clients/colleagues to evaluate and maintain the up and running software
  • Continually updating technical knowledge and skills by attending in-house and/or external courses, reading manuals and accessing new applications
Special Requirements:
  • Work overtime during peak periods to ensure software is release in time
  • Sit for long period of time in front of the computer
 Qualifications:
  • Must have 2+ years experience with C# and SQL Server
  • Degree /diploma in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a combination of education and computer programming experience
  • Knowledge of software development life cycle (SDLC)
  • Strong analytical skills for complex and creative problem solving
  • Strong communication, decision making, team-working and math skills
  • Planning and organizing skills, attention to detail and accuracy
  • Expertise in current computer hardware and software
  • An appreciation of the bigger business picture, not just its IT requirements
  • Able to multi-task in a fast paced environment
  • Familiar with build automation and automated unit testing
  • Experience in using libraries, frameworks, and code refactoring techniques
  • Use of version control and general understanding of software configuration management
Additional Assets:
  • Ability to effectively use modern Integrated Development Environments (IDE’s) specifically Visual Studio
  • Experience in software development methodologies like Agile Scrum approach
