Job Description

This position is responsible for managing the financial affairs of Don-Mor CARSTAR at a strategic level to ensure the company meets all compliance, ethical and professional finance requirements.

As a strong communicator with an emphasis on financial analysis and document management, the Controller will streamline budgeting, payroll and financial reporting processes. This position will be responsible for the oversight of the accounting department and full cycle accounting including AP, AR, billings, payroll and HR. Ultimately, the Controller will help us improve our operational efficiency and play a key part in our continued growth.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assign and review the work of the accounting/financial and HR support staff offering input and guidance;
  • Oversee reports to ensure timely and accurate completion of finance duties such as bookkeeping, general ledger, bank and investment accounts, A/R, A/P, payroll etc.;
  • Ensure proper internal controls by developing, strengthening and implementing accounting policies and procedures and ensure proper internal controls and risk mitigation are in place;
  • Facilitate the budget process for all departments, offering input and guidance;
  • Participate in day-to-day decision-making respecting the preparation and control of the budget;
  • Participate in the administration of short- and long-term investment programs, grants, apprenticeship programs etc.;
  • Assist with the development and support short and long-term operational strategies;
  • Forecast revenues and expenses;
  • Analyze overruns in project budgets and make recommendations regarding the reallocation of funds;
  • Provide solutions for potential variances and discrepancies;
  • Provide evaluations and assessments to the President regarding operational and administrative infrastructure;
  • Analysis of cash flow and daily management of cash revenues according to established procedures;
  • Act as liaison to external auditors and coordinate the annual audit;
  • Execute overall financial reporting including preparation of financial statements, management reports, financial analysis, recommendations, quarterly and year end results and forecasting etc.;
  • Provide comprehensive monthly financial updates to the President by evaluating, analyzing, and reporting appropriate data points and KPI’s;
  • Prepare, analyze, and present monthly financial statements and reports;
  • Provide solutions for potential variances and discrepancies;
  • Support month-end and year-end close process;
  • Ensure compliance with legislation, regulations, policies and directives governing financial matters;
  • Assist department leaders with the hiring, training and development of staff;
  • Perform other related duties as required by President.

What we are looking for? 

  • Preferrably with at least 5 years experience as a Controller;
  • Education and Experience: Post-secondary education in Accounting or Finance or related discipline;
  • Industry experience is an asset;
  • Previous experience in a management role;
  • Experience using QuickBooks.
