Job Description:
Reporting to the President and CEO, the Vice President (VP), Clinical Services and Chief Nursing Executive (CNE) is a member of our Senior Leadership Team and an active participant in the development, implementation and monitoring of CMH’s vision, mission, values and strategic plan. The VP & CNE participates in hospital strategic planning, executive team planning and decision making, while living the values of Caring, Collaboration, Accountability, Innovation and Respect.

The VP & CNE has accountability for all hospital-based clinical services and oversight of nursing practice. The incumbent is a leader, negotiator and partner; directing, facilitating and collaborating with internal and external partners to establish models of care and services to meet key strategic goals of: improving patient access and flow, ensuring financial sustainability, and creating an exceptional experience for all.

The VP & CNE is accountable for creating an environment in which collaboration is valued and excellence in clinical care and professional development is promoted and achieved.


Key Accountabilities:

As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the VP/CNE functions to support the domains of accountability; patient care and experience, quality and safety; operations and resource management; collaboration; strategic visioning, organizational decision making and practice innovation.

Examples of the deliverables include:
•Direct and coordinate the operations of the portfolio; ensure approved plans are implemented. Monitor operational and capital expenditures and mitigate risks
•Lead the development of the annual Quality Improvement Plan and implementation to achieve results
•Articulate the strategic direction for the delivery of clinical care and the provision of nursing and professional disciplines in care delivery.
•Maintaining and enhancing an environment where quality, safe and effective care and an exceptional patient experience flourish
•Maintain CMH’s RNAO Best Practice Spotlight Organization designation
•Work in partnership with the Chief of Staff and Vice-President Medical Affairs, to direct and deliver programs to meet patient care needs
•Maintain, develop and enhance effective relationships across organizations, sectors and regions to best advance the mission, vision and values of CMH.
•Maintain organizational structures to ensure accountability of all nursing and health professionals to fulfill the professional practice mandate and labour relations parameters
•Provide executive support for the Quality Committee of the Board and in collaboration with the Chair, ensure that the annual work plan is achieved
•Disseminate the strategic direction and vision across the organizational through formal and informal structures

 

Qualifications:
•Undergraduate degree in Nursing combined with a postgraduate degree in Health Care Administration, Business Administration, Nursing, or another related discipline.
•Minimum of 5 – 7 years in a senior leadership role, specifically in an acute care hospital setting that provides a broad range of clinical services is required.
•Fellow (FCCHL) or Certified Health Executive (CHE) of the Canadian College of Health Leaders is preferred.
•Proven leadership ability with a strong commitment to a collaborative leadership model within a multidisciplinary setting, and the ability to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
•Demonstrated ability to impact and influence others with proven strong interpersonal, conflict resolution, communication and presentation skills.
•Demonstrated ability to establish results-oriented courses of action for self and others.
•Regular attendance is required
