COMMERCIAL AUTOMOBILE PRODUCT MANAGER

We have a unique and exciting opportunity for a Product Manager in Automobile to support our Business Development team in liaising with Member Companies and assisting in insurance product development.

Key Responsibilities

Your role will include managing the Automobile line of business with an emphasis on program creation and maintenance. You will lead the product development process, including drafting of policy wordings, establishing the underwriting strategy, recommending pricing, and building implementation requirements. You will also provide your expertise in the identification of business improvement opportunities and develop solutions for product concerns.

Additional responsibilities will include:
  • Overseeing and managing research, reviews, comparisons and marketplace scans on new product opportunities
  • Leading the creation of new programs, including products, underwriting rules & guidelines, workflows, processes and system requirements
  • Collaborating with stakeholders and partners to ensure effective, profitable product design with Member Company satisfaction
  • Investigating, recommending and leading product development efforts and best practices, including controls and procedures
  • Overseeing and managing rate reviews by liaising with actuarial resources in analyzing, recommending and implementing pricing, including filing with regulatory bodies
  • Providing guidance and assistance to Member Companies and partners on the Automobile line of business
  • Building strong partnerships and collaborating with Member Companies, partners and other stakeholders
  • Leading and participating on projects and key initiatives, utilizing effective project and change management strategies
  • Communicating regularly with AVP Business Development to update on project status, milestones and concerns
  • Influencing, diagnosing and developing recommendations to solve complex coverage issues
  • Acting as a resource across the Operations division on projects and initiatives to provide coverage expertise where appropriate
You will have professional development opportunities to attend courses, conferences and seminars to remain current on best practices within the research and development and underwriting areas.

Education, Experience and Knowledge
  • A university degree or college diploma in insurance
  • A professional certification such as the CIP, CRM, or equivalent Property & Casualty (P&C) insurance technical background; or working towards it
  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience in the P&C insurance industry and 5 years’ experience in a supervisory/management role
  • Expert knowledge in Commercial and Personal classes of Automobile: Fleet, Garage, IRCA, Private Passenger and Miscellaneous
  • Exceptional communication skills and established networking experience within the industry
  • Underwriting, product and pricing knowledge
  • Knowledge of governance framework, including regulatory filing process
  • Project management discipline
  • Ability to communicate ideas and decisions clearly – to both technical and business focussed audiences
  • Ability to take coverage intent concepts and convert those into products that will meet goals
  • Ability to lead and participate on projects and key initiatives within cross-functional teams
