LEAD HAND - FLEET TECHNICIAN (HEAVY)
Length: Full-time
Wage: $32.80 per hour
Location: Operations Centre, 100 Maple Grove Rd., Cambridge
Description of Duties:
Distributes and monitors the work of Fleet Technician, Heavy and perform preventative maintenance, repair service, and emergency repairs to Regional vehicles/trucks and equipment, including safety inspections, analysis and diagnosis of all vehicle and equipment components and systems, as well as welding and fabrication of specialty items and equipment. Participates in a rotational winter standby on-call from approximately November 15 to March 30 each year.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Required:
- Comprehensive working knowledge of the repair, maintenance and operation of heavy vehicles/trucks and equipment, related hydraulic systems, salters, electronic control devices, snow removal equipment, agricultural and construction equipment, fuel systems, brake systems, tires, suspension, alignment, emissions, and air conditioning systems, acquired through the attainment of a Grade 12 secondary school education; Journeyperson status as a Truck and Coach Technician (310T); and three years experience working on heavy vehicles/trucks and equipment as Truck & Coach Technician with Journeyperson status.
- Must possess 310S (Automotive Service Technician) certification, or be able to obtain within two years of employment.
- Leadership and communication skills to plan, organize, guide, and coordinate the activities of technicians, normally acquired through two years related experience.
- Knowledge of trade standards, the industrial section of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Ministry of Transportation guidelines, and the policies, guidelines, and procedures established for the Fleet Services Program.
- Ability to road test heavy vehicles/trucks and equipment; perform roadside repairs; lift equipment and parts weighing between 25 kg and 65 kg, and push and pull objects weighing a maximum of 200 kg to perform repairs and service; and to operate overhead crane in service bay.
- Analytical and problem solving skills to assist in the resolution of complex mechanical problems.
- Computer skills with ability to create, access, and edit data in the Fleet Management System, Original Equipment Manufacturer software programs; operate automotive computer diagnostic equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical and hydraulic schematics, and dealers' manuals to identify parts and perform work.
- Ability to supply own full complement of good quality and safe technicians' hand tools.
- Must have a valid GZ driver's license, satisfactory driving record, and ability to attain a DZ driver's license within probationary period – OR – a valid DZ driver's license and satisfactory driving record upon hire.
- Ability to support and project values compatible with the organization and to participate as an effective team member.
- Ability to create work orders, complete time sheets, or scan time entry and complete repair summaries and inspection documentation; provide specific maintenance instructions to operators, discuss requirements with dealers or parts suppliers, or obtain information from a variety of sources to perform diagnoses.
