Matrix is looking to grow its current Health and Safety team with qualified and experienced professionals who will continue to provide its employees and clients, across all business teams, with exceptional health and safety support.
 
The Matrix Health and Safety Team consists of three groups: Operations, Program Development and Analytics, and Communications. We are seeking a Health and Safety Advisor in our Waterloo, ON office to support our growing Operations team.
 
This position has safety leadership responsibility reporting to the Health and Safety Operations Team Coordinator. The individual will ensure Matrix business activities meet and/or exceed all Occupational Health and Safety requirements including internal, client, industry and legislated standards.  Up to 50 percent travel to satellite offices and field locations will be required. 
 
Responsibilities:
  • Help build and support Matrix’s high-performing Health and Safety team and its associated management system.
  • Provide strong health and safety mentoring, coaching and support to internal and external clients, as necessary.
    • Client health and safety support can be expected to include activities such as:
      • Ongoing communications and active participation in meetings
      • Providing expertise in Health and Safety legislative compliance
      • Developing and/or reviewing project specific Health and Safety plans
      • Perform regular field safety inspections at various work sites and office locations
      • Developing and/or applying emergency response plans and drills (office and field)
      • Support program development, review and quality control (e.g. Job Safety Analysis, policies and procedures)
      • Completing hazard ID, near miss and incident review
      • Directing and/or supporting investigations
      • Assisting with the implementation and tracking of action items
      • Undertake the opportunity to mentor internal clients with regards to Matrix’s Health and Safety Management Systems
      • Participate in task specific safety training
      • Green Hand/short service employee reviews
      • Variance approvals
      • Champion Matrix’s Health and Safety Guiding principles
 
Specific duties will be assigned based on the individual’s experience, skills and qualifications.
 
Qualifications:
  • inimum of 5+ years’ experience in Health and Safety
  • CRSP/CSP designations and other designations and/or education would be deemed an asset
  • Solid understanding of provincial and energy-related Occupational Health and Safety (e.g., legislation, industry best practice) and its application to work activities and business requirements
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite of software
  • Strong service mentality supporting internal and external clients; ability to build and maintain effective relationships across a diverse set of key stakeholders
  • Solid analytical skills, effective writing abilities, and strong communication skills
  • Ability to work well within a dynamic, challenging and rewarding work environment
