Job Description

As the Environmental Health & Safety Manager (EHS Manager), you will be accountable for the development of a zero-loss safety culture. You will coordinate and execute facility environmental compliance and safety & loss control programs. You must instill the belief that aggressive goals can be achieved. In addition, you must motivate, inspire, and engage others to excel and work towards a common goal while demonstrating an intense desire to create new avenues of opportunity. As the EHS Manager you will be responsible for compliance with all regulatory agencies as well as corporate EHS policies. You will work in a leadership role with facility personnel to maintain safe work standards and environmental awareness and compliance as well as support the overall business strategy. In this position, you will be responsible for leading and managing a team consisting of an Ergonomist, EHS Trainee, Administrative Assistant and a Regulatory Specialist.


Principal Accountabilities:

30% - Safety Leadership: Develop, implement and champion proactive health, safety and environment management system programs in order to achieve and maintain Business Unit goal of developing a zero injury and zero incident EHS culture. As a member of the primary leadership team, drive awareness and accountability for EHS performance and systems through all levels of the organization; assure compliance with internal and external EHS and medical requirements, manage risk, and leverage opportunities; lead stakeholder engagement work on sustainability efforts which include developing collaborative relationships with regulators, customers, communities, and stakeholders; actively participate and, as appropriate, lead, Cargill Corporate EHS initiatives and EHS professional or industry organizations.

25% - Communication: Communicate effectively with stakeholders to engage them in proactively participating in maintaining and improving EHS and medical programs; communicate effectively with the public and environment groups as the business continues to expand our reach and awareness into our communities; champion engagement in the area of EHS; lead the efforts of creating a culture of accountability.

20% - Continuous improvement: Maintain awareness of developing EHS issues generally, in our industry, in the communities in which we operate our supply chain, and our workplaces to anticipate leadership and improvement efforts necessary to continue to achieve EHS targets and objectives; challenge current performance levels across the business and leverage new ideas to improve.

15% - People Development: Develop EHS leadership and awareness skills at all levels and roles of the organization; develop EHS professionals using corporate talent management, succession planning, and performance management tools; develop appropriate and effective EHS training for hourly, supervisory, and management employees.

10% - Reporting and measurement: Produce regular summary reports and analysis on Environmental & Health and Safety activities, performance measurement and results; plan, prepare and present annual EHS plans, goals, objectives, and results; properly manage and maintain the EHS budget for the business.
Required:
 
  • Degree or diploma; preferably in safety or environment science
  • 7+ years of progressive related experience in Health & Safety, and Environmental in a manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, MOL and MOE requirements
  • Ability to lead, influence others, foster teamwork and collaboration
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Computer literacy: power point, word, excel, internet searching
  • Organizing, planning and managing of meetings, presentations, budgets and business goals
  • Strong analytical problem solving and decision making skills
  • Ability to convey messages through active communication and training
  • Available for occasional evening and weekend work and for call in on off shift hours in emergency situations
  • Ability to work in a beef processing plant environment with exposure to hot and cold temperatures, dust and live animals
  • Must be legally entitled to work for Cargill in Canada on a non-temporary basis
Preferred:
 
  • Knowledge of related EHS programs and equipment
  • Knowledge of industrial hygiene and environmental testing methods
  • CRSP certificate or in the process of obtaining
  • 1 or more years of supervisory experience
