POSITION:                 Banquet Server – Delta Waterloo

REPORTS TO:            Banquet Manager

 

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Banquet Server provides prompt and courteous food and beverage service to banquet guests during banquet/ catering functions while ensuring guests’ satisfaction.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare banquet/special event rooms (i.e. utensils, plates, tables, room layout) according to the needs indicated on the banquet event order
  • Introduces themselves to the table of guests and explain the menu/wine for the event
  • Serve menu items to guests in a prompt and courteous manner as indicated on the banquet event order; times the service of courses to correspond with the dining pace of the guests
  • Responds quickly to guest requests in a friendly manner and follows up to ensure guest satisfaction
  • Clears tables after service; trays of dirty dishes, silverware and glassware are taken to kitchen for cleaning

OTHER

-          Will be a role model and ambassador, always representing the Brand, Hotel and your team with the utmost professionalism modeling the core values.

-          Develop and maintain positive working relationships; support team to reach common goals; listen and responds appropriately to the concerns of colleagues.

-          Will ensure that uniform and appearance is clean and tidy and will follow the grooming standards policy.

-          Assists other team members in own, or other departments as required.

-          Complies with Hotel policies and procedures.

-          Performs other tasks as assigned by Management.

-          Must be available to work shifts during weekdays, weekends and holidays.

 

SAFETY AND WELLNESS

-          Works in compliance with company Safety & Wellness policies and procedures.

-          Complies with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

-          Reports any unsafe or hazardous condition/practice to a Supervisor.

-          Will immediately report any worker injury/accident.

-          Will wear the appropriate Personal Protective equipment as required.

-          Maintains work area in a clean and orderly manner.

-          Never operates any equipment, machines, device, uses an unfamiliar chemical or work process in a manner that will endanger him/herself, another worker, or a guest.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: High school diploma

Professional Experience: Food service experience with a general knowledge of banquet operations

Certification and/or License Required: Smart Serve Certification

Skills: 

-          Strong communication skills

-          Attention to detail

-          Strong interpersonal skills for interacting with colleagues and guests

-          Reading and math skills

-          Quick problem resolution ability

Working Conditions:

-            Will be required to work days, nights, weekends and holidays.

-            Will be required to work in fast paced and occasional stressful environment.

-            May be asked to work overtime.

-            Will be required to stand for long periods of time.

Banquet Server

The major responsibility in this position is to provide prompt and courteous service to banquet guests, therefore a significant portion of the time is spent speaking, listening, walking, standing and carrying.

The vast majority of time is spent servicing menu items, whether it is a plated dinner or buffet, and is typically done while standing up and walking.

Communication skills are used a significant amount of time when talking with guests or staff and when given instructions.

Carrying, lifting and pushing items of up to 75 pounds (i.e. plates, utensils, trays, tables, carts) occurs frequently. Proper lifting techniques are required.

Reading abilities are used frequently when reviewing event orders.

Reasoning, problem solving and organizational abilities are used often.
