Industrial Engineer

Salford Group Inc. was founded in 1978 by Jake Rozendaal, then a recent immigrant from Holland who had a degree in agriculture, with experience on his father’s farm and training as a mechanic and a welder.  He seemed to be able to listen and quickly understand what farmers were trying to accomplish in the field. He would then design and create the machinery needed to accomplish the task.
 
Today, even though Salford is still based in the same location, the company has expanded from its humble roots. Salford has become a global company that markets machinery worldwide.  In order to support their expanding distribution network of nearly 300 North American Salford dealers, and keep up with growing demand for their product, Salford has invested in a manufacturing facility in Iowa, Georgia; and multiple parts distribution centers in Canada, the United States and Russia.

As an Industrial Engineer located at the Salford, Ontario Head Office under the direction of the Quality and Continuous Improvement Manager this position will proactively participate in manufacturing management, especially Business Process Management and provide technical support to the manufacturing business units and related operations. This position will also analyze manufacturing process predictability, manufacturing flow, product and raw material costs, work design systems, and packaging and labeling requirements. The Industrial Engineer will provide integrated solutions to achieve effective utilization of materials, personnel, equipment, and financial resources. Technical accuracy, timeliness, and economic soundness of recommendations are expected.

Duties:
  • Manage the procurement, build, installation and equipment improvement modification.
  • Analyze equipment performance and work to improve efficiencies.
  • Predict and plan for maintenance frequencies and related corrective actions for all equipment and tooling to maximize throughput-work to minimize unplanned equipment downtime through effective preventative and crisis maintenance and optimize predictive maintenance, and robust constraint management.
  • Analyze maintenance data and performance data (uptime) and recommend maintenance activity improvements (scheduling, frequency, employee resource allocation, prioritization, job plans/instructions).
  • Develop & update Operator-Instruction-Sheet documents as required, ensuring full communication and dissemination of changes across all relevant operators and shifts.
  • Design and conduct time studies to ensure efficiency levels of lean manufacturing and manning are met or exceeded.
  • Implement process improvements to support lean manufacturing initiatives.
  • Work closely with production/safety/ergo/maintenance to ensure all changes are implemented as per design and in a timely manner, while adhering to safety and ergonomic standards.
  • Experience establishing operation time standards in conjunction within plant standard processes (Pre - determined time standards).
  • Empower skilled hourly employees engaged in start-up readiness and maintenance activities to improve Equipment Availability
  • Drive Scorecard Metrics in the areas of Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, People, Maintenance, and Environment.
  • Assist production with allocation change. i.e. Safety issues, ergo issues, and methods issues. 
 
Qualifications:
  • 3-6 years’ experience in an industrial/mechanical engineering role in a manufacturing environment
  • BSc, B Engineering or Technology Diploma in industrial/mechanical engineering discipline
  • Ability to establish cross-functional relationships
  • Emphasis on teamwork to deliver results on time and within budget
  • Strong organizational skills, manage multiple priorities
  • Effective communication skills, written and oral, with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Knowledge of standard computer software Microsoft Office, Word, Excel.  Access (not required, but an asset)
  • Proven troubleshooting skills, experience or detailed knowledge of agricultural machinery, argri-business, farming, or farm machinery is considered a very strong asset.
