Job Description

Area of Accountability:  Responsible for the development and implementation of Health, Safety and Environmental policies and programs that support business practices within the FIO Automotive Canada Corporation facility.

Responsibilities:
  1. Lead facility Health, Safety and Environmental efforts and program development.
  2. Initiate and maintain programs, which will ensure compliance with objectives and policy, as well as government rules and regulations pertaining to Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental issues.
  3. Direct the activities of the Facilities Team Member to ensure facility maintenance issues are dealt with effectively.
  4. Maintain knowledge and understanding of all provincial and federal Health, Safety & Environmental laws and regulations pertaining to the plant.
  5. Maintain accurate records with regards to safety incidents, injuries, and corporate reporting and ensure activities are handled in a timely manner.
  6. Drives improvments based on key performance indicators (KPI).
  7. Work with Joint Health and Safety Team to develop and maintain internal audit system including corrective actions and tracking system.
  8. Ensure adequate industrial hygiene-testing program is in place and any remedial action arising out of testing is taken.
  9. Develop, revise and update all Health, Safety & Environmental policies and procedures.  Control documents for EMS.
  10. Ensure compliance with Early Safe Return to Work (ESRTW) policy.
  11. Manage (WSIB) Workplace Safety and Insurance Board claims/records.
  12. Facilitate accident /incident investigation and initiate proper corrective actions.
  13. Maintain favourable working relationship i.e., liaise with regulatory agencies including City, MOL, MOE, Fire Department, etc.
  14. Facilitate Health & Safety Training Programs including new team member orientations, ISO 14001, EPRP, Lockout, WHMIS etc.
  15. Lead facility Ergonomic Program development efforts.
  16. Work with Kaizen Group on workplace design, equipment design, workflow, and work process to ensure safe work cells and to incorporate 5S principles.
  17. Facilitate Contractor Safety Program.
  18. Demonstrate an understanding of the significant environmental impacts of your work activities; follow work instructions to ensure positive environmental performance is sustained.  Understand the consequences of delineating from them.  
Minimum Qualifications:
 
      Post-Secondary degree in Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering etc.  Safety Certification desired.
·     5 years experience with an emphasis on health, safety and environmental implementation in a manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in upgrading health and safety programs and process improvements.
  • Proactive and oriented to make improvements in systems and procedures.
  • Strong organizational skills including, managing and prioritizing multiple projects.
  • Strong computer skills – word processing, spreadsheet and presentation.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.Ability to lead / interact with employee teams
  • Excellent analytical and presentation skills.
  • Sound judgment in decision making and establishing priorities.
  • Ability to travel to other company locations on an as-needed basis.
