POSITION:           Lead Hand – Wood/Fixture Department
 
LOCATION:         Paris, Ontario (new 100,000 sq. / ft. facility!)
 
REPORTS TO:      Wood/Fixture Department Supervisor
 
SCOPE:
Responsible in assisting the departmental Supervisor in the overall developmental growth, manufacturing activities and success of the division, from a perspective of: customer cost, quality and satisfaction; employee health and safety, job security and job satisfaction; operational efficiency, profitability and government regulatory and legal compliance.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
 
  • Supervise work of others in compliance with legal requirements and company policies & practices
  • Assume a leadership role in coaching, developing, and motivating all production employees in order that they may perform their functions at a world-class level in a positive, productive and professional environment which fosters team work and mutual respect
  • Monitor quality on an ongoing basis including response to out of control conditions.
  • Assist staff with any quality problem encountered.
  • Monitor and assess employee training including a recommendation of any additional training requirements
  • Ensure that housekeeping procedures are followed to maintain a world-class facility.
  • Monitor and assist in implementation of various systems and processes
  • Communicate with other supervisors and interact with other departments to ensure proper flow is maintained throughout production facilities
  • Work with management and production employees to establish schedules to ensure customer satisfaction and 100% on time delivery
  • Take a proactive role in helping to overcome operational problems encountered in the normal course of business
  • Lead and coach production employees to help accomplish budget goals, improve quality, maintain employee morale and improve work environment
  • Assist in maintaining inventory of production supplies and materials in a cost effective manner
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
 
 
  • Excellent communications, negotiation, conflict management and problem solving skills
  • Ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization
  • Familiar with commercial casework/cabinet manufacturing
  • 5-10 years leadership experience in a manufacturing and/or wood finishing environment
  • Demonstrated success with continuous improvement and team building
  • Experience with the Microsoft Office suite and inventory management software
  • Experience with automated panel processing machinery, including CNC routers, panel saws, and edge-banders
  • Experience in Lean manufacturing and would be an asset.
  • Knowledge of solvent and water based finishes such as toners, stains, sealers, and topcoats would be an asset
  • First Aid training would be an asset
  • Valid tow motor license would be an asset
