Job Description

LAUNDRY/HOUSEKEEPING AIDE

Length:  Part-time (2 positions)

Hours of Work:  Various shifts 6:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., 11:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. with some evenings and nights as required

Wage: $19.14 – $20.31 per hour

Location:  Sunnyside Home, 247 Franklin Street N., Kitchener

Description of Duties:

Sorts and washes soiled clothing. Processes clean laundry through dryers and ironers. Folds or hangs laundry and distributes throughout Sunnyside Home.  Maintains assigned areas of Sunnyside Home in a clean and orderly manner by scrubbing, washing, disinfecting, vacuuming, polishing, and dusting.  Works shifts, weekends, and statutory holidays, as scheduled.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Required:

 
  • Knowledge of reading, writing, and arithmetic skills, normally acquired through the attainment of a grade 12 education and Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) training.
 
  • Communication and human relations skills in order to share information with nursing and Section staff; to converse with or provide personal assistance to difficult or agitated clients and family members; to interact appropriately with and have a basic understanding of the geriatric population; to participate as an effective team member.
 
  • Knowledge of cleaning and infection control procedures; the use and handling of chemical cleaning agents; and laundry techniques and procedures. 
 
  • Ability to work independently and around the activities of staff and residents.
 
  • Ability to operate a label making machine.
 
  • Must provide an acceptable Police Records Check in order to ensure suitability for working with vulnerable populations.
 
  • Writes daily and weekly laundry records, memos, and maintenance work requests.
 
  • Ability to read and comprehend Laundry and Housekeeping procedures and schedules, washing and drying instructions, machine operation manuals, meeting minutes, Material Safety Data Sheets, and Sunnyside Home policies and procedures.
 
  • Ability to participate in monthly meetings.
 
  • Ability to support and project values compatible with the organization.
