The University Advancement division plays a leading role in strengthening awareness of and support for the University’s mission and goals by leading the alumni relations and fundraising efforts across campus and beyond.  All departments within the Division, build enduring alumni and public trust through understanding and support for Western University in a coordinated campus-wide effort that results in the engagement and funding needed to make an impact.  There are 3 departments within the Division – Departments of Development, Alumni Relations and Advancement Operations.

An integral part of the Development department is the Annual, Leadership & Legacy Giving unit that has responsibility for designing, implementing and reporting on fundraising activities for gifts up to $25,000.  This portfolio is also responsible for encouraging and confirming the commitment of prospects to make a legacy gift.
              
The Development Assistant (Advancement) will provide administrative support to leaders and advancement team members within the Annual, Leadership and Legacy team to assist with development, alumni and operational initiatives. The role will provide front-line support and customer service for alumni, friends and donors; update and ensure integrity of constituent information in the division’s CRM; produce mailings; and manage multiple administrative priorities to ensure that work is completed within deadlines.  The role will also generate reports for the team, involving the extraction, preparation and presentation of data files.

Qualifications
Education:
-   2 year community college diploma in Office Administration, Business Administration, or related discipline


Experience:
-   2 years of Administrative experience, providing customer service and support in a business office setting

-   Experience in a fundraising environment preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
-   Verbal communication skills to clearly express ideas in an objective manner, and adapt communication style to suit the situation and audience

-   Ability to work in a manner that models best practices in confidentiality standards and to treat information with discretion
-   Self-driven, critical thinker who is highly skilled at anticipating and resolving stakeholder relation issues
-   Demonstrated ability take initiative, to work independently and follow through on work assignments
-   Ability to apply active listening to hear and understand the complete message being communicated
-   Ability to establish rapport with people from diverse backgrounds
-   Ability to maintain a positive, outgoing attitude with genuine customer service orientation
-   Ability to multi-task and maintain an organized and effective personal work environment
-   Personable and courteous in working relationships with donors, alumni, colleagues, students and the public
-   Ability to work independently and effectively as a member of the team to achieve department goals
-   Intermediate proficiency required in Microsoft Office in order to prepare formal correspondence, emails and memos, input departmental data into spreadsheets and databases, create presentations, and organize shared information for the team
