Manager of Agribusiness Underwriting
It is important for this role to be able to actively build relationships with clients, brokers, and underwriters to ensure we are developing and delivering services and agribusiness programs that are sustainable to build a profitable book of business and growth objectives.
Work location for this position is ideally in-office or a hybrid schedule. This is a new role, therefore, initially we expect 4-days in-office with more flexibility added as the role develops. When working remote, the work is required to be completed within the Province of Ontario. Financial relocation assistance may be provided to relocate within a reasonable commute distance to our office in Chatham-Kent, Ontario.

About the Role
We are pleased to introduce a new leadership opportunity with our team at Kent & Essex Mutual Insurance Company. As the Manager of Agribusiness Underwriting, you will be accountable for leading product development and daily operations for underwriting services related to the Agribusiness. While utilizing critical thinking to guide decision making you will possess extensive knowledge of agribusiness underwriting and department processes, procedures, and regulated requirements.

Leadership and Operational Accountabilities
- Develop and implement agri-business underwriting plans, processes, procedures, and co-ordinates specific projects in accordance with approved company strategic plan.
- Lead a team of SME underwriters, and team leaders to influence frontline decisions to shape the best practices of the agribusiness department.
- Implement corporate strategic direction to sustain a profitable book of business and growth objectives.
- Provide direction, guidance, training, and technical advice leading to the development of underwriters to achieve their highest performance potential.
- Develop, execute, and oversee KPIs, to achieve business goals and service standards.
- Communicate department objectives and motivate the team to meet and exceeding customer service standards.
- Analyze data and make recommendations on staffing levels, staff development, broker authority, underwriter authority levels and workflow.
- Be the face of Kent & Essex Mutual’s Agribusiness SME UW team.
- Develop and facilitate strong broker relationships using a high degree of diplomacy and negotiation.
Skills & Requirements
- A college diploma in business, agriculture, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 10 years’ technical experience in the P&C insurance industry plus 3-5 years of people management experience.
- CIP/FCIP/CRM designation earned or in progress or equivalent Property & Casualty (P&C) insurance technical background.
- Advanced knowledge through work or life experience of agribusiness/farm risk evaluation, rating, and procedures.
- Proven technical skills, sound judgment and decision-making skills are essential.

- Demonstrates collaboration, integrity, and performance in all that they do.

- Strong ability to influence and effectively negotiate with stakeholders.
- Proficient in MS Word and MS Excel. Experience using Guidewire would be an asset.
