Food Safety Specialist

Reporting to the Food Safety and Quality Manager, the Food Safety Specialist is responsible for development, implementation and improvement of Food Safety Management System including HACCP (Food Safety Plan) and ensure compliance with all regulatory bodies.  You will liaise with key stakeholders conducting gap analysis, root cause analysis, and provide solutions.  You will drive food safety preventative measure and prepare Aspire for all internal and external audits. You will play a vital role in preparing Aspire to achieve their BRC certification.    

Description
  • Promote a Health and Safety, Food Safety, and GMP culture
  • Oversee and conduct plant audits, ensuring plant audit readiness status is maintained
  • Conduct internal food safety, GMP, and SOP audits
  • Develop and implement training programs to instruct employees to monitor & document HACCP, SOP, & other required functions
  • Develop, implement & validate HACCP & Food Safety plans
  • Create and implement policies, procedures, Best Practices to comply with CFIA, and other regulatory bodies
  • Daily monitoring of the day-to-day facility processing operations to ensure adherence to all regulatory standards, including equipment inspection & participation in pre-operational & post-operational start-up procedures.
  • Maintenance of the Microbiological Control Program, including the performance of swabbing activities, result trending, & corrective action implementation & follow-up
  • Foster positive relationships with external vendors, regulatory bodies, and employees
  • Develop and maintain SOPs, forms, policies, and procedures
  • Ensure compliance and participate in internal and external audits  

Requirements
  • 2 to 3 years food related experience in areas of GMP and HACCP principles and programs.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Food Science or a related discipline.
  • Solid understanding of HACCP & Quality Management Systems through HACCP certification and/or inspection & auditing certification.
  • Experience with setting up and maintaining environmental monitoring programs
  • Effective written & verbal communication skills to all levels & functions of employees
  • You have a strong attention to detail, can clearly communicate both written and verbal
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Able to work within a team with strong interpersonal skills to include leadership and collaborative influence skills
  • Strong computer skills including Word, Excel, Gmail
  • If required, you can work outside of your normal work schedule 
  • May require some travel, Drivers licence is required
  • You can stand for long periods of time, use of a respirator, bend, twist, kneel, and work in extreme cold when required
