Job Description
Middlesex Mutual Insurance Co. (MMIC), with over 140 years in the insurance industry, is seeking an experienced Accountant to join our talented and dedicated team. The position is a hybrid role with opportunities to work from home and our Ilderton, Ontario office. The position reports to the Manager of Finance.
Middlesex Mutual is a financially strong, policyholder-owned property and casualty mutual insurer with an annual Gross Written Premium of more than $13 million. We protect policyholders by providing peace of mind with reliable customer service and affordable personal, agricultural, and commercial insurance products. Additionally, we safeguard policyholders, their families, and communities by promoting environmental sustainability, social responsibility, and community engagement.
The successful candidate will oversee the day-to-day operations of the Accounting Department and complete various accounting tasks including, but not limited to:
- Preparing journal entries and reconciliations
- Preparing monthly financial statements
- Completing monthly commission remuneration
- Preparing government returns & remittances and industry related filings & obligations
- Supporting internal audits and annual financial statements
- Transitioning to the IFRS-17 accounting standards
- Liaise with both internal and external stakeholders on queries, reporting and other financial related matters
- Any other duties as assigned by the Finance Manager
The ideal candidate will possess exceptional communication and organization skills. As well, have excellent analytical abilities, detailed-oriented and proficient in managing multiple projects with minimal supervision.
Job Requirements:
- A minimum of 5 years accounting experience
- An accounting designation or post-secondary accounting degree
- A CIP designation will be an asset
- Microsoft software proficiency (excel, word, outlook)
- Exceptional listening and writing skills
