This position provides technical assistance to the Veterinary Microbiologists in the diagnostic Mycoplasmology and Molecular Biology laboratories at the Animal Health Laboratory (AHL).  The successful candidate will be responsible for: receiving a wide variety of animal specimens and conducting tests utilizing various methods including ELISA, culture isolation, RNA/DNA extractions, molecular biology assays, and reporting test results in a computerized Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS); maintaining micro-organism inventories; maintaining and calibrating central microbiology laboratory equipment, and other general laboratory functions.  

Requirements of the position include: Three year community college Laboratory Technologist program, with a focus on Molecular Biology or Microbiology, plus some related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; working experience with diagnostic molecular biology/microbiology  techniques such as ELISA, manual and automated high-throughput DNA/RNA extraction on various animal samples, high-throughput conventional and real-time PCR, DNA sequence analysis; working experience in an ISO accredited laboratory; a thorough understanding of quality protocols; understanding of WHMIS and Occupational Health & Safety in a laboratory environment; excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.  Must be, or be willing to be, rabies vaccinated.
