The Manager, Administration and Finance will oversee, direct, and assist with establishing the vision for a wide variety of administrative, human resources, financial, facilities and digital processes to ensure smooth and efficient administration across Western International. The Manager will lead projects to develop and implement administrative plans to support successful integrations, partnerships and collaborations supporting International experiences for students, and will ensure compliance with relevant legislation and Western's policies and procedures, including leading the budget planning and transition processes for Western International, following a recent merger with the Western English Language Centre (WELC). The Manager will critically review the administrative processes, design and implement new processes to support continuous improvement and the management of legal, operational and financial risks, and will provide direction and advice to other leaders in the Western International portfolio with respect to unprecedented or unusual human resource, finance or technology challenges and support the Vice-Provost and AVP in resolving urgent and unforeseen issues as they arise. The Manager also leads and directs the work of others, ensuring continuity of administrative operations, coaches and trains staff, and provides comprehensive consultation on a variety of administrative processes to ensure the University community is served effectively.


Qualifications

Education:
- Undergraduate Degree in Business Management/Administration or relevant field with courses taken in accounting and human resources
- Working towards or completion of Canadian Institute of Management Designation, Chartered Professional Accountant Designation, and/or Certified Human Resources Professional Designation

Experience:
- 7 years’ administrative, financial, and human resources experience in a complex office environment
- Experience managing staff and projects
- Experience in budget planning and analysis, implementation and operationalization of strategic plans
Preferred Experience:
- Experience in a unionized or public sector environment
- Experience working in an academic environment and/or within international education would be an asset
- Knowledge of Western financial and human resource policies and procedures

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of financial budgeting and accounting principles
- Knowledge of best practices in human resource management including recruitment, training and development, compensation and safety, as well as Employment Standards Act and other relevant legislation
- Knowledge of techniques for planning, managing and coordinating multiple projects, often with competing priorities that involve a variety of stakeholders
- Knowledge of general office procedures, best practices for assessing, developing and implementing new business processes and procedures
- Analytical skills in the areas of financial and business management to draft budget proposals, forecast expenses and monitor relevant accounts
- Familiarity with post-secondary international programs throughout Canada and internationally
- Ability to evaluate future implications of strategies, and consider the outcomes of situations that could develop from decisions
- Cross-cultural competency with an ability to interact and work effectively with people from different cultures and backgrounds with the capacity to consider issues from the perspective of others
- Decision making skills to provide solutions that are consistent with available facts, constraints and probable consequences
- Results-oriented with the ability to motivate and coach employees to meet high performance standards, while working effectively as a member of the leadership team
- Communication skills with an ability to complete detailed analytics and reports
- Customer service skills to understand customer needs and expectations, with a desire to deliver helpful and reliable service to the University community
- Ability and willingness to employ a consultative and collaborative approach to addressing issues and making decisions
- Ability to handle details with a high degree of accuracy and to organize and prioritize a high volume of work to meet deadlines
- Ability to remain highly motivated, resilient, innovative, and collaborative when faced with challenges
- Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite and with financial/human resources databases/applications (such as PeopleSoft)
- Influential interpersonal skills that build positive and strong relationships at all levels of the organization
